Who says this happened in Malta? It’s a parcel from Germany, this may have happened on any point during its voyage.

Some of my suppliers just flat refuse to ship to Malta. Too many package “losses”

Sellers have to keep in mind that mail items are transported in mailbags weighing up to 30Kg sometimes. If something is of value or can get damaged, the packaging needs to be sturdy enough.
Marking it Fragile won’t change the sorting and mail process as everything has to end up in mailbags. Seeing this damage, that is what I think happened i.e. it was on the bottom side of the mailbag in the transit between Germany and Malta.

I worked the midnight shift at a DHL sorting facility while in college, and I was shocked by the handling of packages. Despite labels indicating ‘fragile,’ packages were often treated carelessly, as if they were indestructible. People would throw packages onto the conveyor belt from about a meter away, so you can imagine how hard the impact was, especially with heavier items. The heavier the package, the less care it received, it was thrown even more roughly. I witnessed large items like TVs, monitors, and kitchen appliances being handled without any concern, and it was hard not to imagine something breaking. Supervisors and managers generally stayed in their offices, doing f*ck all and more focused on ensuring trucks were loaded on time than on how packages were handled. However, after six months on the job, I began to understand why packages were thrown around so recklessly. When you’re handling about 5,000 packages by yourself between 12am and 7am, with some weighing up to 25 kg, you can’t exactly afford to place each package gently on the conveyor belt. By that point, you just want your hands and lower back to survive the shift. That’s why I never order fragile items online anymore, I prefer to buy them in store instead.

Miles Express and DHL are the best for such items. I brought expensive rare first editions through them and had no problems. You Ship We Ship is the way for such items. Miles Express is reliable and professional. I had phased-out MaltaPost because of their extortionate charges on non EU goods.

This is entirely *the shipper’s fault*. It is inadequately packed and not protected against bending or folding. Mail is handled in tons by machines and also people that don’t care about a single item.
If you believe that a flat letter in a huge pile of other mail is going to be “handled with care” just because you put your red sticker on it, then you have no business operating a mail order company.
