If the PRC wanted to be a normal member of the world community of nations, Taiwan and China would be great trading partners and even friends. The same goes for Russia and Ukraine. Getting off on your country being bigger and most feared has destroyed most of the last 3,000 years of European history. Just look at France and Germany after WWII. A shining view of a possible new world without death and depravity.

With Hong Kong, China has already made it very obvious what the future of a CCP-controlled Taiwan would be.

  3. There’s such a weird thing going on over Taiwan, I talked with a chinese person once and I mentioned a theorical “invasion” of Taiwan as a joke and she literally shut down over it. The gist of it was “Taiwan is part of China, just governed by a different party so talking about an invasion is wrong. Also implying that China would do wars of agression is incredibly disrespectful” and it really struck me, I always thought that they must have known that Taiwan doesn’t think that but it seems they 100% believe it in their “part of China” narrative they’re not even a bit aware despite Xi being so open about it.
