    >“Quite simply, (government) should have considered this rigorously. This policy and the decisions taken affect those with protected characteristics, including age and disability, and it affects 10 million people.”

If you’re arguing that removing something that only affects pensioners is being ageist because it only affects the elderly, then the state pension is ageist because only elderly people can get it. You can’t have it both ways.

If they’ve not able to put the cooker on because they can’t afford it, then they’ll qualify for the pension credits, surely?

I have next to no sympathy here – they’re pulling the “pensioners are people who plan things through” card while also, clearly, not having planned things through if they’re not eligible for pension credits but also can’t afford to use their oven then they’ve messed up somewhere.

They’re arguing that they planned for having that extra £300 a year and not having it throws that out of whack – when the state pension has gone up by £1700, which is *far* more than the £300 and, I’d wager, a lot more than the average working person has their wages increased by in a year.

I still cannot understand the argument that this is a bad thing, when a quarter of pensioners are technically millionaires and pensioners are *already* receiving a load of benefits and increased pension over the average working individual.

They need to drop all the stupid emotive allowances and wrap it into a universal pension. Like they did with all the poor fucks on universal credit.

34% of pensioners millionaires. £880 on top of accomodation 100% funded for those who don’t own a home. MORE THAN THE FULL TIME MINIMUM WAGE.

YOUNG PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE PENSIONERS TO COURT IF NOT MORE.

ENTITLED SHITS NEED TO GET A JOB.

  4. The Tories just released a video of some pensioners talking about how terrible it is that they no longer qualify for extra benefits. One of the guys is literally overweight and wearing a gold Rolex talking about how it will be difficult to eat this winter.

  5. silverbullet1989 on

Oh boo hoo… have they tried not shopping at Waitrose or M&S each week? Maybe its time for them to pull themselves up by their bootstraps… something they are often fond of telling us young people to do.

  6. pissflapgrease on

Maybe if they didn’t have their heating set to 35c it wouldn’t cost so much.

“affect those with protected characteristics, including age and disability”
Disability is entirely irrelevant, you couldn’t get this fuel payment by being disabled.

Disabled people used to be able to get the Warm Home Discount, but that changed a couple of years ago and now practically the only people eligible are old people with giant houses.
No one gave a f*ck when people much poorer than pensioners lost their heating payment.

  8. Imagine if there was a pensioner uprising and they all went on strike at the same time…

“I never expected them to run out of things to punish the younger generation with and affect *me*”

The government and the state is immune from prosecution in the courts for obvious reasons. The politions are also immune from any wrongdoing for broken promises, again for obvious reasons. Just fyi

His Facebook profile is public at the moment and he has 3 dogs and a well maintained home. They are far from the poor scared to put the cooker pensioners that they claim to be.

  12. Professional-Bat4134 on

    Should have spent wiser then.

Maybe they need to review their outgoings and find £300 by not ordering shite off QVC.

  13. Dayne_Ateres on

Normal working people at each other’s throats again.
Humans are disgusting creatures, too busy infighting to notice the immoral politicians and lobbyists shitting all over them as usual.

  14. So they have money for legal fees, but not to heat their homes, got it.

  15. ItsDominare on

As a certain grandpa once said: I’m old – gimme, gimme, gimme!

  16. PuzzleheadedPut9998 on

Good to see that ageism is completely fine and even promoted on this sub. Do none of you have parents or grandparents that struggle?

  17. CaptMelonfish on

If they can’t afford winter fuel, exactly how are they affording legal fees?

  18. PM_me_Henrika on

I agree. So let’s give them their winter fuel payment back and remove all pension payments.

  19. Why all the OAP hate? These are folks who have paid their way and get the state pension as is their right. It doesn’t matter if they’re a billionaire providing they’ve paid their superannuation for their state pension. Fuel allowance is for the poor who can’t afford to heat their home. Do you want them to die? That could be your grandparents you are trying to kill by not allowing them to heat their home.

  20. Just the other day I have means tested a couple applying for a benefit for housing improvement/adaptation.

    They had 160k in savings.

Obviously I can’t state anything more than that…

  21. RevHolyOne on

They were not so forward when we were taking away food from the young and poor

  22. DamoclesOfHelium on

    Fair enough.

If the government has money to spaff on Ukraine and paying the rent for invaders, then surely it has the money to give to pensioners who have payed into the system their whole lives.

  23. AdrianFish on

God, I despise pensioners in this country. Hurry up and you know what.

  24. I would ask the government to explain if they have factored in the cost saving derived from the approximately 4000 dead pensioners who would no longer receive an annual pension.

  25. BirchyBaby on

So this fella is receiving the state pension AND a private one, and it still isn’t enough? If £300 is ruining your life, you needed to do a LOT more of that “forward planning,” Peter.

Time to cut back on that avocado toast and Netflix subscription, I guess..

  26. yourlocallidl on

might be time to sell off that holiday home rental in cornwall don’t you think

  27. dizzguzztn on

The gold plated pension generation who experienced unprecedented economic opportunities are now moaning they don’t have sufficient money in retirement. Sacrifice. That’s what you constantly tell us to do

  28. MadamKitsune on

I’m becoming increasingly frustrated by this as on the one side I have friends who are grabbing every shift they can as care workers and still being frightened of putting the heating on, and on the other I have an elderly family friend threatening some kind of blue rinse civil war because she’s sitting on tens of thousands in the bank and won’t be getting the WFA.

Mind you, this is the same woman who was furious when the change was first announced because she could no longer put her WFA towards her yearly pre-christmas minibreak but is now claiming she won’t be able to afford to have the heating on at all, despite the heat from her house nearly scorching off your eyebrows when she answers the door. But if you suggest that there’s more than just pensioners who are facing fuel poverty she goes off like a cheap firework complaining about people being lazy and expecting something for nothing.

Tired of hearing these old cunts whining. I’m hoping for a cold winter to thin out the heard
