It’s a poor decision to give the islands to Mauritius, especially without consultation with those who were removed and their descendants who have no links to their new masters.
Don’t see why inviting them back and giving jobs for the base and sustainable use of fisheries etc. couldn’t have been done.
It is opening up a geopolitical weakness that could have negative strategic consequences later down the road and seems rather unnecessary.

It is probably one of the most bizarre and self-defeating diplomatic moves in history. Literally just giving away strategically vital territory to a country which is 2,000km away from the islands, has no historical claim to them (they were literally uninhabited!), and which China is bringing into its orbit.
A spectacular display of self-flaggelation on the diplomatic stage which just makes the UK look weak and pathetic. Terrible for Gibraltar and Falklands who have been absolutely thrown under the bus now that the UK looks like it’s prepared to grovel.

My father died in the Falkland’s War. Personally I find it an odd affair. It’s messed up my family but I see it like Argentina owning the Isle of Wight. I do question myself if it’s right but ultimately I believe it’s up to the people that live there. How someone wants to live there I don’t know. Will my father’s death be in vain (it seems for oil reserves) I don’t know.
I honestly don’t know how I feel about it all. Only that I wish I had a loving, cohesive family.
