Next summer I’ll be doing this (Paris to Istanbul), can’t wait for this adventure

One of the erliest connections seems to be missing though: via Bucharest to Giurgiu, crossing the Danube by ferry, transferring to the narrow- gauge line Ruse-Varna and from there by steamer to Istanbul.

The endstation in Istanbul is magical. To step in there and see what then was the furthest you could travel into the orient and far east from Europe by train is thrilling. Also there is Dervish-dancing occationally to be enjoyed with accompaning music. A true gem for any traveller.
