“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
—Martin Niemöller
It’s easy to turn a blind eye when your job, your livelihood, your family’s welfare is threatened by protesting or resisting. But Inaction is a slippery road that can end in catastrophe for everyone, including those too scared to speak out.
A good Russian. Haven’t said that in a while. I hope his fellow countrymen take example from his sacrifice. Rip. He seemed like a guy of immense bravery. And paid the ultimate sacrifice. That’s to be remembered and respected. I’m going to look this guy up and read his story.
Another brave human having made the ultimate sacrifice for humanity. 💔
