To summarise – Indian government wants to override the precedent the supreme court is trying to set.

      Unconscionable.

      >Marital rape is outlawed in more than 100 countries, including Britain which criminalised it in 1991.
      >But India remains among the three dozen countries – along with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia – where the law remains on the statute books.

    4. get after it ladies. Chain him up and ram in wherever you want! oh, you only wanted men to rape women? weird flex

India has a bit of an image problem as far as extra-marital rape is concerned too. I’m not sure why they want to be seen as the “Rape Country”, makes you look a bit… Weird…

India is advancing in leaps and bounds but its patriarchy is holding it back.

At least the supreme court is trying, they usually get their way, so the only bad news here is the government people elected aren’t working for the people’s interests.

It’s crazy to me for anyone to say that criminalising any form of rape is excessively harsh. Also 1 in 25 in India are victims of marital rape according to the article. That’s just insane.

India is such great place with all the rape and really clean

    10. FunFact: here in germany marital rape wasn’t a crime until ’92 and even then some CDU politians (like our future Chancellor Merz) were against criminalizing it.
Beating your kids wasn’t illegal until 2000 too.

Is Bill Burr some kind of heaven sent prophet?

“Just jerk one out” seems to be the good news that a significant part of the world’s population doesn’t understand.

    12. My list of reasons for never wanting to visit India again just got a bit longer. I shall add this under my reason 47: Using beaches as public shitters.

    13. Lovely place India. Have to worry about getting raped in your home and gang raped on the way to work.

They’re not doing themselves any favours to shake the India is rapist country image

    15. India is low key a kinda fascist country. It also seems that most Indian Americans running for office or involved in government are GOP and hard right.

      > The Indian government has opposed petitions in the top court that seek criminalisation of marital rape, saying it would be "Excessively harsh".

      > Criminalising marital rape "May seriously impact the conjugal relationship and may lead to serious disturbances in the institution of marriage", it stated.

      > The affidavit noted that in a marriage, there was a "Continuing expectation to have reasonable sexual access from one's spouse" and while this did not entitle a husband to coerce his wife into having sex, including marital rape under anti-rape laws would be "Excessively harsh" and "Disproportionate".

This only means that the people running the government enjoy raping their spouses.

But it’s India, they have gang rape as a national pastime on the same level the U.S. has gun violence as a national pastime.
