It’s practically impossible to entirely stop things from trickling down through third parties.

What sanctions do is not entirely stop components from coming in but make it so Russia has to go through black market making them buy these components 10 or 20 times their actual value and where Russia can only buy very limited numbers not to draw attention to their supply lines.

In order to entirely stop these from coming in the US would have to stop selling these components to anyone in the world and even then it’s no guarantee that bad actors with ont the US could not embezzle some of those to sell on the black market.

Sadly ironic that Britain and France couldn’t authorise StormShadow or Scalp because of US chips

Money First … Sick shit while US block use of the ones they give/sell/lend to Ukraine.

  4. Saying this contains Western consumer-grade chips is only marginally more news-worthy than if it contained western nuts & bolts or was painted with Western paint… unless they were bleeding-edge stuff that’s subject to export controls and restrictions it’s almost impossible to control stuff that’s being churned out in the millions and fitted to everything from dishwashers to smartphones.

  5. But the sales! Won’t someone please think of the Sr. Executive bonus schedule?!

    1. I guess we don’t see anything in this picture that you could not order/print in China. Only a couple of stock components.

    2. What a shitty jumper wire, is this a prototype?

These are consumer electronics not specialized military hardware.

It doesn’t take much to guide missiles.

Your smartphone is thousands of times more powerful than the computer that took Appollo to the moon, and when the Nazis first started throwing missiles at England we didn’t even have microchips.
