  1. We know how to compromise, we know how to build a coalition, we have no ethics, we just want to get things done.

It is what NATO needs. NATO needs Rutte right now. Everything we disliked about him, the political chameleon as the NYT put it, is perfect for this NATO position.

  2. In my not biased opinion all sec gens of nato should come from eastern flank.

Seriously? Not a single of the eastern nations are getting even 1 gen?

That’s because the Dutch know how to efficiently show military might back from their VOC days.

In our defense, we are really good at defending. Our national team is drowning in defensive talent: Virgil, Ake, vdVen, De Ligt, Frimpong, Dumfries, Van Hecke, Timber, De Vrij.

  6. The superior candidate ( Kallas ) sadly didn’t win. Don’t worry, Moscow knows rutte well.

  7. a small country is not a threat for the bigger countries. That makes it easier to get consensus on a candidate.

The Netherlands historically rarely being number one, but always being close to the top. Efficiency while being conservative.

idk how people think nato treats all nations equal. in every major position you have western nation appointees. I say it, nato (also eu in general) will never have someone from the eastern europe or balkans in critical positions. draw a line from berlin to rome, anything west of it can be appointed to major positions, anything east of it have to suck it up and obey whatever western nations say. if it was up to me, military power should have something to say in this position. when there are powerhouses like uk and france, then spain, italy, turkey and poland rotate the position, or https://www.globalfirepower.com/countries-listing-nato-members.php use something like this. in the list netherlands is ranked 13th which shows they are not that powerful in military sense. then why give them a position to act on general behalf when they do not have that much idea about the military strategy or logistics, etc. it just shows countries closer to the eu hq are corrupts, just like ursula von der leyen doing with the eu. if small countries like belgium, netherlands located in the other side of the berlin – rome line they would not have gotten those positions. just being close to that hq should not affect the outcome of general outcome.
