  1. Good news, hopefully they can staff it up quickly.

Most problems with our asylum system disappear or are at least greatly alleviated by faster processing. When they doubled the staff over the last year or so processing times went down – like any administrative process it’s a function of manpower and systems.

This is great but they need to start working on giving the large chunk of successful applicants decent homes

Oh look at the photo… They’ve a mini bike shed outside – just the lean-to part…

  4. The really frustrating thing is that this is history repeating itself and was entirely avoidable

How i started my career in civil service was when they did a similar huge recruitment drive in the early naughties because of the huge influx of asylum seekers and the massive backlog that built up

Why cant they employ 400 new gardaí? Or even split the difference.

I mean its good that they have more staff to beef up processing but they need to address that there are still bottlenecks in the system, like IPAT and then judicial review. Theres no point in speeding up the first part of the process and then having people languish at the subsequent stages

lol, imagine the same number of people recruited into GSOC investigating corruption – or investigating financial fraud – something you’ll never see adequately staffed/funded in this country.
