I don’t think anyone expected DeGeneres to go item-by-item through the exposés in a comedy special, but if comedy specials are the new confessional magazine covers or Barbara Walters interviews—if she was really so ready to talk about it—then the self-flattering revisionism of For Your Approval is a cop out.

    Good. Saved myself the hour.

  2. I saw her in, what I thought was supposed to be some funny skit for skin care. Nope! It was an info- commercial for some one of kind… blah blah

I thought it was actually kinda funny. Her type of humor isn’t usually my type of humor but I chuckled a few times.

Whether she’s a good human or not, I can’t say, but she’s right in that many people in the entertainment industry have done much more heinous things (allegedly) and continued to have opportunities she didn’t. Just look at Diddy, who only now is getting his comeupance, but it’s been known for a long time that he’s not a good human.

She deserves the criticism, for not taking responsibility for her actions, but things are always more nuanced than we’d like to admit.

I’m not trying to defend her, even if it reads that way, I’d just like people to include nuanced perspectives when reading situations.

I saw it. Wanted to hate it. But it wasn’t bad.

She said one thing that was really funny and really true; that she never went to business school and never really knew how to run a company like the Ellen Show. Said she shouldn’t have been the boss. Said that no one expects Ronald McDonald to be CEO of McDonalds.

And that’s a really good point.

Just yuck! I wouldn’t piss on her if she were on fire. Hopefully we never have to hear from her again.

She just wanted to share with the world how salty she is she no longer has a show. Could’ve done a tik tok instead. Netflix “comedy” specials are becoming quite the saddest butthurt portfolio.

All the accusations are blown out of proportion by overly sensitive sensationalists – most of the accusations were against the producers on the show – not Ellen – she was taken down because she was blamed for what others did and they admitted they didn’t know if she knew about any of it. Only one person claimed racism – and it was because they used the word “Spirit Animal” – how is that racist? One producer was accused of sexual harassment – which was valid – but how is that Ellen’s fault? Her being “mean” was her making jokes that fell flat. She has always had dry wit humor – a lot of Americans don’t understand it. All comedians have had jokes fall flat that some sensitive newbie was somehow offended by… usually because it was miss interpreted based on their insecurities. The media as usual amplified a few situations for profit and twitter users repeated them around the globe making it seem worse and more than what it was. Read this article if you actually care about not continuing to spread bullshit – Ellen was taken down for no legit reason – again –

It was just OK. There were a few chuckle moments. But there were TOO MANY applause moments that just were not needed nor deserved. At one point I thought she had an applause light.

It seemed less like a comedy special and more like a “poor me” snuggle fest. She had the literal stage to address or apologize for the things she was accused of, it was boring.

  9. She started out as a funny stand up comedian and probably could have made a great career out of it. For whatever reason she thought that she was better than that and decided she could be an actor and then a talk show host but lost her sense of humor and self awareness and instead became a sarcastic and mean person who felt entitled and had no problem making other people uncomfortable with her so called humor. She is the only one responsible for her downfall and I don’t think anyone feels sorry for her and she needs to go away quietly.

Did she dance? I’ll watch it if she dances. Those dance moves crack me up.

An hour to pretend to apologize and say farewell, but actually spend the time on self-justification and all on the Netflix dollar? Ellen wins again!
