Companies have been trying to make AR glasses a for a decade and while improvements have been made, we’re still in a stage with very expensive devices with low battery life. It could be a long while before AR becomes practical. I’m thinking it may not be until the 2030s before the tech is ready for something that normal people will be ready for and it remains to be seen what kinds of usecases people will want it for.
“Desperate” doesn’t feel like the right word. Doesn’t even fit the tone of the article
A solution looking for a problem. I’d suggest nobody really wants them.
It’s called Orion because there are 3 pieces to it, you have a wrist band so the glasses can detect hand gestures without cameras, the glasses, and then a thing the size of a phone with a SIM card to transmit all the data.
Can you imagine having to carry and keep charged all that shit??
I think product has promise. But current costs are prohitibitive. its using tiny microled projectors which it appears take production costs above 10K !!! If they can bring that down as production scales or use alternate tech, I expect a product to come out in next few years.
For those who think it has no use case, we have to wait and see, Every big product that came up including personal computers was considered niche when released. Use case for a wearable which does not take you away from the environment has potential for sure.
