Während die EU plant, Paris und Berlin (1000 km) in 8 Stunden zu verbinden, verbindet Italien Rom und Reggio Calabria (700 km) in 3 Stunden und 30 Minuten, um den tiefen Süden zu erreichen

  1. It’s good news but Paris – Berlin in 8 hours is not very impressive… you can do Sevilla – Barcelona in 5 hours 50 min with a train change and it’s 1000 km too, through quite a unequal terrain.

What OP does not understand is the new Paris-Berlin line is not about new infrastructure, but about new service. There was no train between the two capitals, and now there is one. It takes HSR lines where they exist and classic ones elsewhere. Nothing more.

  3. The whole thing is a joke, there is already a fast connection between Berlin and Frankfurt and another one between Frankfurt and Paris. Only thing they did was add a nonstop train to the schedule, and it doesn’t even skip Karlsruhe. Eight hours man, that’s boring… and it took them just 35 years after the wall came down – or a good 60 since the Elysée treaty was signed. That’s what you get for not investing into your railways and focussing on Diesel cars instead. This country really got stuck somewhere in the 80s…

The EU plans??? What does the EU have to do with scheduling trains?

Meanwhile the UK’s HS2 still won’t be finished when these are up and running.

  6. Funniest thing is that they promise to finish the line before the bridge over the strait is done, when everyone in Italy knows the bridge will never be built in the first place.

Wasted money for that duration of travel, anyone would still pick a flight.
