I see what you did there Verge. Create the story and put a massive image of the link in the ‘not found’ message from X, Links to this story now give the direct link to the content X is trying to block.

  4. Future generations will never understand why Trump ever picked this guy because I don’t even think we understand it now.

  5. Gotta love the free speech absolutist. I uploaded the PDF into google’s new feature that makes an AI podcast based on the files you give it, should be a fun listen.

  6. Remember when they claimed Twitter not advertising hunters laptop was the biggest 1st amendment violation ever?

  7. >It is unclear why X is blocking Klippenstein’s story

I know The Verge can’t say this as a news outlet, but it’s really, really not. Musk is a hypocrite, and a right wing hack doing everything he possibly can to try and get Trump elected. Like the article points out he was TOTALLY OKAY WITH IT when it was Hunter Biden or “the Twitter Files”, but now that it’s Trump’s running mate…

  8. So… this is all that’s in the Iranian hack?

“Vance has been one of the chief obstructionists to U.S. efforts to providing [sic] assistance to Ukraine.”

“Vance criticized public health experts and elected officials for supporting Black Lives Matter protests while condemning anti-lockdown [Covid] protests.”
    “Vance ‘embraced non-interventionism.’”

“In 2020, Vance criticized President Trump’s airstrike killing Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, worrying it would continue to bog down America in the Middle East to the advantage of China. Vance suggested that the country had been entangled in wars in the Middle East so ‘financial elites’ could profit from the rise of China.”

What about this screams shit we didn’t already know?

Leon paid $44 billion for his own unfettered “free” speech and uses it to stifle any opinion he disagrees with.

Can anybody explain like the 3 most important points of the JD Vance dossier for me and all lazy fucks out there

  11. If you’re still unaware that “X” is, and was always going to be, Elon’s personal propaganda machine, then that is on you. Douche-turd’s idea of free speech is the freedom to amplify your own opinions and silence those you don’t like.

    Free speech absolutist, right?

(Unless it conflicts with his agenda, of course).

  13. HippieDogeSmokes on

I don’t get why this is a big deal, it’s all stuff that’s he’s basically running on from what I can tell

  14. I leafed through it, just seemed like publicly available stuff. Lots I didn’t know like he is in bed with Peter Thiel for helping him create a private equity firm in 2020. I was hoping it would have information they acquired from the hacks, but it seems the author was too smart to include stuff that could cause the dossier to be considered criminal.

Don’t need to read a dossier to know that JD is Peter Thiels personal meat puppet who sole mission is to seize the reins when 45 decides to skip his next birthday (by nature or by action)

*Ya know, I think the worst part of it all is the hypocrisy.*

Here’s a summary of the notable and potentially revealing facts from the dossier on J.D. Vance:

    1. **Anti-Trump Past**: Vance was openly critical of Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign, declaring himself a “never Trumper,” comparing Trump to heroin, and mocking the MAGA movement as a “quick high.” He also doubted Trump’s ability to be an effective leader and criticized his statements and policy proposals.

    2. **Flip-Flop on Trump**: Despite his early opposition, Vance later became a supporter of Trump, voting for him in 2020 and endorsing his policies. This shift raises questions about his consistency and authenticity.

    3. **Ties to Trump Antagonists**: Vance has been associated with several Trump critics, including working with the American Enterprise Institute and writing for David Frum’s anti-Trump platform. He also has ties to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and former critics like John Kasich and John McCain.

    4. **Criticism of Trump’s Policies**: Vance was critical of key Trump administration policies, including the 2017 tax cuts, repeal of Obamacare, and border policies like the wall and the travel ban.

    5. **Critical of Big Business**: Vance took controversial stances against corporate interests, calling for higher taxes on businesses and those without children, opposing right-to-work laws, and advocating for stronger labor unions.

    6. **Controversial Social Positions**: Vance has expressed opposition to third-trimester abortions, including in cases of rape, supported laws requiring businesses to close on Sundays, and criticized marijuana legalization.

    7. **Ukraine and Foreign Policy**: Vance has been a vocal critic of U.S. support for Ukraine, opposing aid and calling for a “negotiated peace” with Russia. He also criticized Trump’s airstrike on Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, fearing it would entangle the U.S. further in Middle Eastern conflicts.

    8. **Praise for Democrats**: Vance praised prominent Democrats such as Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Bernie Sanders in the past. He supported some Democratic policies, particularly those benefiting the working class, and suggested in 2016 that Biden would have fared better against Trump than Clinton.

    9. **Wealth and Luxury**: Since the success of his book *Hillbilly Elegy*, Vance has enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle, which critics have called hypocritical, given his class-based political rhetoric.

    10. **Ethical Concerns**: Vance’s nonprofit, Our Ohio Renewal, aimed at addressing the opioid epidemic, has been heavily scrutinized for its lack of transparency and questionable use of funds, with most of its activities appearing dormant since 2017. Additionally, his involvement in venture capital, particularly with Narya Capital, presents potential vulnerabilities, as some of the entities he has ties to have been involved in controversies or FBI investigations.

These points highlight potential vulnerabilities for Vance and contradictions in his political positions that could be of interest to opposition or voters.

They published his social security number, why should they let that be live on the platform?

  19. I downloaded it and skimmed it. Here are some takeaways with nothing shocking-

His legal practice lobbied for Purdue Pharma, Alibaba (he wasn’t directly involved).

He made numerous statements against Trump in the ’16 election (old news). The specific details are all laid out. He has made negative statements about republican policies and some positive ones about democrat policies and former democrat Presidents.

He made statements that were more moderate than most republicans make about the economy and government spending, etc. He was basically a moderate republican until tapped to be Trump’s VP. Same was true for John McCain before he ran for president. They lean hard into the base to get votes.

For an incredibly un-sexy view of why this content may be removed from X from an in-house lawyer who worked at a social website few years ago.

    – It would likely put leadership [Elon] in front of Congress to testify on why [he, once being made aware] allowed content, that was obtained by a hostile foreign government, on the platform during a high risk environment to candidates own safety **in addition to** how close the election is

    – Direct liability: Section 230 is being systematically dismantled; X and Elon may be exposed to civil or criminal liability for not removing said content

If I worked at X legal, would absolutely be losing my mind over how poor of an idea it would be to not immediately action that content.

FWIW, accounts *could* be actioned by Reddit admin for linking to it. Reddit is now a public company and I doubt spez would want to testify to Congress after the IPO just a few months ago. Idk how Reddit will handle this.

  21. Free Speech Absolutism = we have absolute freedom to control speech on our platform

  22. I’m sure he would do the same if someone posted some kind of dossier on Kamala Harris, right?

  23. He was only an advocate of free speech when it was fun to make fun of transgenders and people of color.

  24. Suspending the Twitter account of a major news organization for publishing a truthful story was obviously incredibly inappropriate

  25. dormidormit on

wow so much for free speech. If Musk wants to be legitimate he must allow it.
