All of these subscriptions raising prices and cracking down on passwords makes me want to jump in my boat and sail far away from this cursed place.

  2. It must have taken a group of rocket scientists to decide that the best way to keep subscribers from sharing their accounts is to offer them the chance to pay more.

Plenty of free sites with decent quality videos (some even in 4K) and the only price you have to pay is closing the occasional ad 😅

  4. How will this work with users who subscribe via Apple TV and have family iCloud for subscriptions?

After you watch the two good shows and three movies that havent been overplayed everywhere else is there a reason to have D+?

  6. donkeybrisket on

So they’re up to $18/month for an-ad free month, another user is $9, what a rip off.

I think the thing a lot of these big streaming companies don’t realize is that a lot of people “steal” things they wouldn’t otherwise pay for. Like your streaming service isn’t that special, there’s so much fucking content out there and mostly I like to rewatch shows I really like with a few new things sprinkled in every now and then.

And like not everyone uses a shared password to the same extent. Sometimes it’s just for a random thing or watching and hour a week of content. It’s convient to share a service between me, my mom, and my brother that we don’t use that much, but we’re not all going to pay to separately barely use it. Which just ends up making them seem greedy and unnecessarily strict, and will probably result in just cancelling the service or not getting additional users.

So goddamn frustrating these MBAs and execs that just think they have all the power and/or feel cheated for any “apparent” loss of revenue.

Like me and my mom share a Disney+ account and each watch like one Disney movie a month. They are getting way more money than the server use/bandwidth being allocated to our account and yet we’re going to have to pay extra in order to keep doing this.

They really should only do this for multiple power users. Shared password is no more stealing than “hey I rented this blockbuster movie last night, it was great, if I give it to you can you drop it off by Monday?” Like blockbuster didn’t lose anything back then and these streaming services aren’t losing anything now most of the time.

Didn’t the advertise that they didn’t do this when Netflix started?

So glad I switched to piracy

  9. So there is apps out there that are for movies and tv shows. With enough searching and stuff you’ll find them. As of right now there is at least 10 of them on iOS App Store. Use a good dns ad blocker and you’ll have access to all movies and tv shows. Using nord vpn and AdGuard works wonders. Once Netflix pulled this I just set up everyone with the movie apps and haven’t locked back

I was just reviewing if I even need Disney+ and Hulu at this point. I usually just keep it around to let family use it 🤣

I’d have thought password sharing ( if somewhat limited ) was a good thing for retention, eg I shared my account for a streaming service with my sister and now I’d feel guilty cancelling it

  12. johnnyblaze1999 on

They saw people are still on board with netflix, so they jump in.

  13. That’s how I stopped paying for Netflix and returned to piracy again lol

  14. Everyone always says they’re going to start using torrents, but you know what I did? I just stopped watching so much goddamn tv. All the shows either drag on for too long or are prematurely cancelled. I also just don’t have time to get invested in 40-80+ hours of content.

I know I sound like an old man at 32, but, like, go outside. Pick up a hobby. Go talk to somebody.

  15. Disney is my last paid subscription service. i bought for the year, but i wont renew. Jack Sparrow has demonstrated his ability to give me great content with no bllshit.

  16. vaporking23 on

The raising prices and the password crack down was what cause me to get rid of Netflix last December. Once my renewal is up in November for Disney that will also be going away.

These streaming services have gotten too expensive and I can’t afford to have as many as I used to. So as my year subscriptions all come up for renewal il one canceling them and then rotating through one at a time.

    Mmhhmm….interesting. I’ll just be over here 🏴‍☠️💅🏼

It really seems like we are going full circle back to cable subscriptions. Anyone up for creating a physical store with memberships and you rent like physical copies of movies and games with overpriced snacks at the check out?

  19. f8Negative on

What’s the point of having multiple user profiles on account if you don’t share password

  20. _SummerofGeorge_ on

How about I offer you a Harty fuck you matey! To the high seas!

  21. ContextAutomatic on

Come on man ! First Netflix and now these guys ! Its dooms day if amazon prime does that. End of the circle and Ill cancel everything

  22. It’ll be a sad day when they remove the free disney+ as a grandfathered Verizon perk.

  23. CabbageStockExchange on

To quote one of their works:

“Yo Ho yo Ho a pirates life for me!” 🏴‍☠️

  24. ahmadtheanon on

hahahahha! my yearly subscription ends Nov 2024, just in time for complete season of Agatha, so yeah, wont renew. LOL

  25. goblinsnguitars on

Maybe they could have saved that energy for writing new quality content.

  26. TheGoodGuise on

this is so dumb. my in laws got Disney plus for my children so we have it logged in at my house and theirs. that should honestly not be an issue.

  27. Herculumbo on

So when do we jump back to cable? It’s a joke where streaming is now

  28. I forgot I had a free Disney + subscription through Verizon until I saw this post. Is it even worth sharing? I dont think I’ve even used it this year.

Sounds like an ad but it’s not. The content is whatever.

  29. Wooden_Echidna1234 on

That reminds me the price of my Disney plus increases in Oct, time to cancel.

So how does this work for family members who go to college like my kid? I have to now buy an add-on? What about younger kids on an iPad? This should really be like x amount of devices outside of the home are allowed
