Then there’s the blue dot. Hopefully this trend can continue.

Mark my words: this will be the upset of the cycle. Osborn does better and better the more people learn about his campaign. So consider donating, if you’re reading this.

Labor leader vs career politician. Easy choice.

Saying Red Leaning Nebraska is like saying Slightly Corrupt Clarence Thomas.

    4. Idrinkbeereverywhere on

Having the name Osborn is probably helpful in Nebraska.

    5. crisisactorsguild on

This dude has the chance to be an extremely powerful senator with a coveted swing vote. Nebraskans should take note of this.

    6. bonyponyride on

The article doesn’t say which party he’d most likely caucus with. He’d have immense power in a circumstance where Republicans have 50 seats and Dems have 49, which is a very real possibilty.

    7. ToadallyNormalHuman on

Dan is a pro union military vet who is an industrial mechanic. He speaks their language in western Nebraska and is very popular.

    8. Fact that this could be a nailbiter is great. He’s a union guy who has led strikes so that’s solid. Also appears to be in line with some sane ideas so this isn’t someone who is “republican lite” on most issues

      > He supports raising the national minimum wage and a lower tax rate on overtime work; guaranteeing access to abortion; facilitating union organizing; protecting gun rights; securing U.S. borders and exploring ways to legalize some undocumented workers; legalizing and taxing marijuana; and improved railroad safety

    9. TipReasonable3581 on

What is really interesting is there is another question in this poll, once someone hears more about Dan, they are more likely to vote for him.

If you want that landslide, then you should help us work for it. Write letters to encourage people to vote, do some phone banking or text banking, and remember to *check and re-check* your voter registration as often as you can, since people are being purged in many swing states!

Always good practice to have ELECTION PROTECTION and/or CIVIL RIGHTS DIVISION phone numbers in your contact list in case you encounter voting issues at any point.

    11. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.newsweek.com/nebraska-independent-overtakes-republican-senator-new-poll-1959123) reduced by 83%. (I’m a bot)
      *****
      > Independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn has overtaken Republican incumbent Deb Fischer in red-leaning Nebraska, according to a recent poll.

      > Still, the result is significant for an independent candidate in a state which is one of the Republican Party's strongholds.

      > Of the 34 seats up for election in November, Democrats are expected to lose a net of two seats, with Republican challenger Tim Sheehy the favorite to win Montana over Democrat incumbent Jon Tester, and Jim Justice the favorite to fill the seat of conservative Democrat-turned-Independent Senator Joe Manchin, who is not seeking reelection.

    12. I feel like people just don’t like the “Democratic Party” label because they think it’s scary and bad regardless of its platform. So if he wins, I’m happy to run people in red states who have no connection to the party but support many of the same things.

    13. Aldo_Raine_2020 on

Someone needs to buy the InfoWars trademark. Like the Lincoln Project or MeidasTouch

    14. pm_me_your_boobs_586 on

“the Democrats will have 48 seats, and the Republicans will have 50 seats.” So that’s 98 plus this Nebraska seat equals 99. Who is the 100th senator they’re omitting?

    15. CokeZeroSugrr on

Independent candidates are extremely popular with both low information voters and conservative leaning independents. Look how close UT’s seat almost flipped to I in 22. I actually expect Osborn to win it.

    16. Correct_Market4505 on

really hoping that the republicans take an L here so they’ll be incentivized to get their act together

    17. sorospaidmetosaythis on

Up 1 pt., 4.8-pt. MoE, and it’s Newsweek.

Still: He has a good chance, and this adds to the Allred-Cruz race in TX and Tester in MT as possible paths to a functional, not-completely-insane, Senate which Harris will need if she wins, or which can stop Trump if he wins.

    18. Old-Significance4921 on

He’s gaining a ton of support because he’s doing what Fischer doesn’t ever do-connect with people who actually work for a living.

He’s having town halls and meet sessions in a bunch of rural towns where people never get any visitors and feel left behind. Nebraskans are finally seeing past the (R) on candidates and not giving them a free pass. I hope he wins.

    19. RepulsiveRooster1153 on

Voting is a lot like driving Vote __(D)__ Democrat to go forward, vote __(R)__ Republican to go in reverse…**Remember in November** and if you can’t do **(D)** just do **(I)**. never ever ever go backwards

    20. OrnamentJones on

If Osborn wins in Nebraska it will be a genuine coup and an astronomical win for Nebraska Democrats, who stepped back strategically.

    21. raerae1991 on

I would like to see a lot more independent candidates in Congress

    22. Emotional_Database53 on

We need both the Democrats and GOP to spilt so we have 4 parties, then switch to a ranked voting system if we want to get away from the deadlock of our current 2 party system.

Note: I don’t see the Green Party as a viable 3rd party either. I feel like it should be Progressives, Democrats, Republicans, MAGA. Those 4 would likely have enough supporters to run competitively. Ofcourse coalitions would be formed when passing bills and whatnot, but that’s closer to how I think things are done in other countries with more than two parties in their democratic process

    23. Nebraskan here, I’ll be voting for Osborn. Hopefully Fischer has sent her last form letter to me explaining why she unequivocally always manages to find a reason to rubber stamp the GOP agenda over the needs of Nebraska.

    24. Plastic-Kangaroo1234 on

The article said Dems don’t have a real chance of flipping a seat. I thought I just saw a poll that had Allred basically tied w Zodiac Cruz in Tx.

    25. me_and_err on

This has to be more about name recognition in Nebraska than an informed electorate as Tom Osborne was the University of Nebraska’s head football coach from 1973 to 1997. To me that would explain his polling way more than an entire MAGA state suddenly changing their tune.

    26. Republicans are figuring out that if they are running for office and had any heavy alliance with Trump the odds are going to start stacking against them. Everyone needs to vote, and they need to vote for Harris, not independent. Chris needs to win by an overwhelming majority that will put an end to all election fairness conspiracies.

    27. No_Track_889 on

Especially these republicans who are not really republicans anymore. People forget that roe vs wade happened because of a very very large republican women agenda when it passed. I mean when it was the law of the land republicans were greatly responsible for the Right to Choose. Now they are the most ignorant hateful group of Americans I have seen in my 72 years. And most of the old line republicans like the Bushes are boiled up in their comfy places letting it happen not doing the right thing. It’s just ICK

    28. External-Bluejay8469 on

Dems should just go full Russia on this- run wacky MAGA candidates in deep red states then have them flip the second they take office. This should be a no brainer.

    29. TaxLawKingGA on

Fischer has never been particularly popular. She is sort of milquetoast and a non-MAGA so doesn’t have the strong support base of other GOP senators

    30. One_Sky_8302 on

His campaign manager is a hero in Pittsburgh responsible for many positive election outcomes

    31. 1white26golf on

If this isn’t a click bait headline I don’t know what is.

TLDR; Opponents are 44% to 45%.

    32. If he wins, it would be so great for our democracy. It would show millions of Americans sick of the two parties that someone from the outside could represent them. Also, a loss like this would be terrible for Republicans.

    33. porgy_tirebiter on

Newsweek does this on purpose. They could easily say Nebraska, but then you won’t be forced to click.
