> The murder of a 19 year-old female student in an exclusive neighbourhood of Paris is fuelling new calls from the French right for tougher action on immigration.
> For France's hardline new interior minister Bruno Retailleau, it is a first test after he took office last week promising that his top three priorities would be to "Establish order, establish order and establish order.”
> Currently fewer than 10% of French expulsion orders are carried out, according to government figures.
Why was this “thing” not deported? Morocco is a safe country. Why are these people in power if they can’t apply such a basic part of the law? Extremely disheartening.

If the left doesn’t act on immigration they’re going to be handing the government of the country to far right political groups on a silver platter.

German terrorist who stabbed three people to death a few weeks ago was also somebody who was supposed to be deported.
Tangentially related – a very underreported terrorist attack in the Netherlands last week. The guy yelled “Allahu Akhbar” and started stabbing people but of course the media just says he’s mentally disturbed, which is nice and PC.

The suspect was convicted of rape in 2021, released from prison in June, and then placed in an administrative detention center. Before the murder, he was put on a wanted list for violating the conditions of his release.

The murder has led to calls for tougher measures from both left and right wing politicians. For example, Socialist party leader Olivier Faure said the suspect “should have gone straight from prison to plane”. Former socialist president François Hollande said deportation orders must be enforced “quickly”

And when the far right rises again they’ll blame everyone and anything but their own incompetence and unwillingness to protect their people.

“Sandrine Rousseau of the Ecologists said the murder was a “femicide” which should be “punished severely”. But she warned that the far right would “exploit it to spread its racist and xenophobic hate”.
THIS is why this is happening Sandrine, because of these constant disclaimers Sandrine.

If you think this is a ‘far right’ statement, you’ve fallen for the divide and conquer.

If you order someone deported, that’s it, off they go, straight to the border/airport. No waiting for appeals, no letting them set their affairs straight, you kick them out as fast as you can, and maintain custody until you do. They don’t leave your sight until they’re out of your country.
We pull this same crap in Canada, and it’s pathetic. What’s the point in ordering someone be deported if you’re not going to ensure they leave?

The reason European governments don’t do anything about this is because they need Arab oil.

Just asking, why wouldn’t they just keep him in jail if he was to be deported..?? Why let him out at all when you’ve already declared him as unfit to live in france..??
Also, why is he only getting 5 years for raping someone..?? Is this the norm in France..??

Odd to describe it as a exclusive neighborhood – the Bois has been sketchy as hell for years. Horrible horrible thing to have happened anywhere though. And a very visible consequence of failed policies

He had just been let out of prison after serving 5 years for raping another young woman. He had an expulsion order which was never carried out.
It’s not a “failed” deportation. You can’t fail at something that isn’t attempted. They could have put him right on a plane but made the decision not to do that. Why?
This young woman was murdered because the French government is choosing to not carry out the most basic of duties. It was entirely preventable.

If deportation is not possible since country of origin does not want him, or jail is too expensive, then why not just kill him and be rid of the problem ?

These failures in deportations make me really angry since they are helping the far right gain power all over Europe. At the same time, there are no easy solutions for these problems. The main problem is that immigrants coming from countries that do not have good relations with the West will never accept these people back. Even if they have a good relationship, they are not going to accept a criminal back to their society unless you basically bribe their government with aid money or something. We need to discuss solutions at a societal level and more discussions need to take place. These crimes make everyone angry but solutions are not that easy. The only way to get more solutions is to open discussions in society and listen to ideas. Free society needs discussions of complex topics to arrive at the ideal practical solution.
