  1. >This has raised alarm among defence companies, with politicians from all parties expressing their anger at the German decision, which they claim does not respect the country’s neutrality and democratic process.

Just wonderful. I will assume that only Switzerland is allowed to have these “democratic processes” and when other countries react it is gross violation, rather than those countries exercising their own sovereignty and democratic processes.

    >Germany’s letter said the decision stems from Switzerland’s refusal last year to allow the export of 12,400 rounds of Gepard tank ammunition to Ukraine. Germany had purchased this ammunition from Switzerland three decades ago.

I’m not surprised, those anti air units needing the ammo are critical for anti drone and even anti helicopter defense and are sorely needed in this conflict where it’s difficult to shoot down so many cheap aircrafts in a cost effective way, using guided rockets isn’t exactly economical or feasible. Imagine handing out the anti aircraft guns and then saying “Oooops, we got no ammo for them right now”. Idk the specifics of Swiss legislation that blocked those exports but it literally got people killed.

Blame it on the green parties and pacifists 20-30 years ago, not just in Switzerland but also across Europe.

The current restrictions were put in place to appease them. Bunch of clueless idiots.

  4. making and selling weapons and ammunitions, but refuse the resell for defensive purpose. What other purpose and use could weapons and ammunitions have?

I am very dissapointed in the hypocrite postion of the swiss government.

I do understand the decision to not send weapons to countries involved in conflicts if you are a neutral country. However, the UN assembly voted to condemn the Russian invasion as Russia broke international law and wages a war of aggression.

It is one thing to be neutral and refuse to send weapons where the conflict is “muddy” like a civil war, or countries that are dictatorships and which have grave problems regarding human rights, but it is morally wrong to refuse aid to a somewhat democratic country that is invaded (wea re also talking about clear signs of war crimes perpetrated by Russia).

Switzerland is geography, it could not be what it is if located closer to Moscow.

It’s kind of ridiculous. This isnt F35s we’re talking about. If I bought a bunch of ammunition I should be able to do what I want with them

Well, well, well… If it isn’t the consequences of my own actions…

As they should. My country has proven to be unreliable to our fellow democracies in need. Why would they buy our weapons? I certainly wouldn’t.

The article has today’s date on it but I swear I read it 3+ weeks ago.

  11. Seems odd that Germany is blanket ruling out EFTA bids – Norway for example has been a NATO member for decades and I wouldn’t imagine would dick about like this.

Why not just make one of the purchase criteria be that Germany gets full control over what is done with the goods once purchased, with no outside restrictions from the seller?

  12. I am Swiss and I absolutely understand Germany. Something will have to change. There is war in Europe against a clear evil and Swiss weapons cannot be used to defend democracy and our values. It’s absurd!!!

  14. Let me introduce you to Swedish weapons instead, they’re far superior, today non-neutral and almost sounds like Switzerland.

  15. The Russians knew how flexible the Swiss were with the Nazis when they were depositing “found” gold, and thought the Swiss may treat them to some of their “moral flexibility” as well.

    For a simple reason:

Swiss is not a trustworthy supplier.

  17. good , the Swiss fucked around and now they are doing the other bit

  18. QuestGalaxy on

Switzerland is enjoying the safety of being surrounded by NATO and EU, all while hiding away money for corrupt criminals.

Switzerland might have scored the biggest own goal since the start of the war, have fun getting anything sold.

  20. Wouldn’t surprise me if they started buying less from the USA after the ongoing storm shadow fiasco and manufacturers stop using American and German made components

  21. When one side in a geopolitical conflict is objectively evil, continuing a policy of “neutrality” is objectively evil as well. But what can one expect from the same people who happily took Nazi gold back in the day…

  22. Well, what is the point in purchasing weapons and ammunition(!) if you are then not allowed to use it because a criminal cartel objects.

Why are there any terms on the resale of something that one country has bought from another? Why would I need the permission of the manufacturer to sell on something that I bought, be it a car, a gun or indeed anything? If they insist on such conditions, then no one should buy anything from them.
