    It’s a good thing Vance already confessed to this on national TV.

    Oop. This is unexpected spiciness on a Tuesday.

    Turns out maybe you can’t just say whatever you want and talk shit.

  3. roughingupthesuspect on

    lol, Vance charged in his own state. Should be easy to find…

    >The following charges were filed:

    * Disrupting public service — by causing widespread bomb and other threats that resulted in massive disruptions to the public services in Springfield, Ohio;

    * Making false alarms — by knowingly causing alarm in the Springfield community by continuing to repeat lies that state and local officials have said were false;

    * Committing telecommunications harassment — by spreading claims they know to be false during the presidential debate, campaign rallies, nationally televised interviews, and social media;

    * Committing aggravated menacing in violation — by knowingly making intimidating statements with the intent to abuse, threaten, or harass the recipients, including Trump’s threat to deport immigrants who are here legally to Venezuela, a land they have never known;

    * Committing aggravated menacing — by knowingly causing others to falsely believe that members of Springfield’s Haitian community would cause serious physical harm to the person or property of others in Springfield; and

    * Violating the prohibition against complicity — by conspiring with one another and spreading vicious lies that caused innocent parties to be parties to their various crimes.

    I mean, they have Vance on CNN telling the host that they were all lies and that he will continue to lie to get outfits like CNN to pay attention to their desperate campaign to ~~keep Trump out of prison~~ get Trump elected.

    Edit: JFC, I fixed the formatting!!!

    Trump is successful because he threatens whoever gets in his way, such as Robert Mueller, Merrick Garland, Congress and the Supreme Court. Whoever stands up to him is a hero comparable to the Founding Fathers.

    Committed “menacing” I love it. Can I sue him for being a menace too?

    I got all excited when i read the headline, but:

    >The leader of the nonprofit Haitian Bridge Alliance filed charges against former president Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, for the chaos that ensued from their uncorroborated statements about immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, eating pets, according to the Cleveland law firm representing the agency.

    >The Chandra Law Firm says the nonprofit used a state statute allowing private citizens to “file an affidavit charging the offense committed.”

    >Through the filing, the nonprofit asks the court to affirm probable cause and to issue arrest warrants.

    >The court must have a hearing before rejecting the affidavit as part of the legal process.

    So the City filing charges would be one thing, but charges brought by private citizens have to go in front of a judge, who can throw them out.

    I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but I’m not hopeful.

    Filing criminal charges and pressing charges… that is a power of Prosecutors and District Attorneys, they do that. Not citizens. Citizens file a police report or complaint. It irks me to no end how misunderstood that is.

    So right off I was skeptical. Sure enough…

    >The Chandra Law Firm says the nonprofit used a state statute allowing private citizens to “file an affidavit charging the offense committed.”

    Further in the article, after the list of offenses they allege

    >The court must have a hearing before rejecting the affidavit as part of the legal process.

    Those are the only two sentences in the article that are actually relevant.

    Turns out the Haitians were coming after little bitches all along.

  10. Good for them.

    This will be dismissed early, but this is not a frivolous case and the accusations are very real. We have laws to protect the civil order, and I suspect that the intentional lies spread by the campaign may have violated some of them.

    In a just world, this would go in front of a jury to decide if there are laws that are specific to the acts of the trump/vance campaign. That won’t happen, though.

    A nominee for a major party in the United States of America.

    Im so sick of this shit. Vote Harris and every Democrat on the ticket.

  12. Techno_Core on

    Well, if “Yelling “FIRE!” in a crowded theater.” has any teeth to it, this has to be a textbook case, what with Vance admitting he made it up.

  13. SuckMyGock on

    You just know it bugs Republicans to get sued by migrants using our legal system against them. They’re FUMING.

  14. Dapper-Membership on

    I love how Cheung alludes to Springfield Haitians as “illegal immigrants” but in this case these folks are here LEGALLY which in my opinion makes things more damning.

    Sadly, nothing will come of it. Supreme
    Court has been bought and paid for.

    Vance is now his apprentice in how to game the system for real

  16. I hope the Haitians get their victory. And I hope that couch presses charges too!

    The New Colossus

    Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
    Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
    A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
    Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
    Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
    Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
    The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
    “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
    With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
    Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
    The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
    Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
    I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

    Emma Lazarus

    This is what the United States of America is about.

  18. So, Trump is in direct violation of his parole?

    Consequences, or “Nah. Just vote.”

    I know it won’t happen but it would be funny if this lie lost Trump Ohio

    Can’t wait to hear how the corrupt doj is now sending private citizens to file charges lmao

  21. SCOTUS will respond very soon, granting presidential candidates immunity…

    We’re all sitting here thinking, *”it has to be illegal to just makeup all this pet-eating bullshit and repeat it over and over.”*

    About time. I’m just wondering how strong this state statute is allowing citizens to file charges.

    I think the state should have, but is obviously reluctant and they don’t want to be “political”, so they haven’t.

    This **FORCES** the state to review the charges and either agree with them or decline and explain why they declined. The problem is the crimes are pretty straight forward so they might be compelled to act.

    More reasons to vote Harris-Walz:

    ✅ No active litigation against either of them during the 2024 election cycle (currently): especially by an entire population in a city that they specifically mentioned during the campaign

    ✅ No existing convictions on either of them, especially Harris as potential POTUS

    (There are more reasons but let’s focus here for now)

  24. Please please please let this go forward. Need some accountability on people making false claims that entice violence or disrupting the peace.

  25. AlexHimself on

    **This might have legs!!**

    Under `Ohio Revised Code Section 2935.09`, the procedure heavily favors the Haitians.

    Basically, next a judge will hold a hearing with **ONLY** the Haitians+council to present their case/evidence. No Trump/Vance/lawyers.

    Then the judge will determine based on what they present whether or not there’s probable cause and either accept/reject/modify the charges.

    They are using a novel approach to compel the state to act, even though state prosecutors are afraid, don’t want to charge, and don’t want to appear political.

    This gives the state prosecutors **COVER** too for their actions. They’re going to say *”we have no choice but to charge.”*

  26. MinorThreat83 on

    Calling it now. Somehow Trump gets off without a smack on the wrist and JD Vance ends up on death row.
