I get annoyed at scientists over this bullshit.

Climate change is 100% real. The problem is nobody has a clear idea as to what the real timeline of events is or how best to measure when the real problems are going to start.

* **In the 1960s they were convinced that we were reaching the point of no return with regards to overpopulation.** They predicted entire regions of the world would collapse into resource wars. What happened? (Population then was 3.5 billion). We’ve now doubled that number and while there are still real problems, we aren’t in a Mad Max scenario at all. Quite the opposite.
* **In the 1970s they were convinced we were on the verge of a second ice age.** There were scientists saying that air pollution would block out the sunlight and cool the planet while others were reporting that spy satellites were seeing an increase in ice coverage with headlines like “It’s coming.” – Can you guess what happened?
* **In 1982 the director of the UN stated that we’d see worldwide devastation in 20 years.**
* **In 2006, Al Gore made a movie about global warming which showed the “real maps” of flooding which would occur if we didn’t do something quickly.** He gave 2016 as the year of no return.
* **The UN gave a date of 2012 (I know, the UN again, right?) as the point of no return.** I wonder if that had anything to do with the Mayan Calendar bullshit?

Now we have this list of “Planetary Boundaries” which cannot be broken or we have no means of return.

After those boundaries are broken, they’re just going to make another list and use that to try and scare us.

It’s exhausting. Just admit you have no fucking idea what happening and that the estimates you give need to be taken with a grain of salt. Nobody knows how the planet is self-regulating and there’s no one who knows when the true “point of no return” will be.

It’s all politics and posturing.

The reason why the public distrusts science is because scientists keep pulling numbers out of their asses and are trying to scare the public into doing what they want them to do. Those predictions are then wrong and scientists call us stupid for calling the balls to call them out on it.

If you have to lie to us to convince us of something, you suck at your job.
