    1. Bury the lede that it’s excellent and quite famous in his own right actor Jared Harris saying the above.

The films are good but there’s so much more content to explore that a TV show gives you time to do. One of my biggest complaints about the movies is the scope of >!Dumbledore’s Funeral!< With the added time of a TV show they could really do it and some other omitted content justice. The real answer to why is $$$ but I like to think about the potential positives.

Money. They tried to expand the film franchise beyond the original books with the fantastic beasts movie only for the third movie to disappoint at the box office. It’s just easy to remake the books a tv show, milking the franchise for another 10 years.

It is an exceptionally rare to have an almost guaranteed massive hit on your hands: The billions this will make, and thousands beyond thousands it will both directly and indirectly employ for the better part of a decade are more than worth it.

You have to look at the bigger picture: This making all the money (even after the execs take their undeserved share) will benefit so many other smaller projects down the line.

It’s so annoying family members who didn’t contribute to the success of their late relatives always have the most to say.

Shut up already. Get over that there will be new faces for something YOU weren’t even part of lol

The films were great but not perfect. Book readers missed out on a lot of scenes – major and minor – that a TV show could flesh out properly. Just adapting Half-Blood Prince properly will justify this entire series for me. We’ll get to see more of life at Hogwarts, meet more ghosts, properly flesh out Dumbledore’s backstory, adapt his funeral etc. This show has plenty of potential if done right.

Is anyone even excited for this? HBO series lately have sucked, and adaptations are so derivative.

While I would love it if they explored things missing from the books and maybe even pulled off something better its a wild gamble with a high chance of failure.

A well written and structured show around the parent’s generation and the first rise of Voldemort would be way better.

Yeah, and why do people keep making adaptations of Shakespeare plays. He died 400 years ago. Get new material, theater!

And no, I don’t think Potter is on the level of Shakespeare. It’s just that popular stories are always going to be prime candidates for adaptations. Because money talks. Granted. I think it would be more interesting to do a Hogwarts series set well after the time of Potters. But adapting existing material is easier for a number of reasons.

    12. Sure the films were good, but I heard they left out a lot of book material. So a TV show sounds like the best way to adapt the book material.

    13. Say it again. No one asked for this. The movies are perfect. Masterpieces.
