It was a stupid idea to begin with and frankly it’s pretty shocking they ever even considered it.

      ‘Suggests’

Make it clear, scream it and put it up in neon lights.

Axeing it would make me regret my vote for Labour and end any support I have remaining for Starmer.

This probably means council tax valuations for properties will be reformed i.e. no longer going on their 1991 value which is what currently defines what band your house sits in.

its reported Rachel reeves is keen to get more money for local councils to stop them going under, so I think they will do something

reviewing the council tax valuations was the main rumour going round until it was usurped with the rumour that she would scrap single persons discount.

As a single person who will be moving into a flat in the next few months, this fucking pissed me off that they even considered cutting it. Felt like I was being punished as a working class fella for improving my own quality of life and living.

I won’t be surprised if they do it when they think no-one is looking or try to sneak it in at some point.

“Discount” the absolute nerve of it. I get my bins emptied twice a month and use absolutely nothing else from the council.

Some stupid arbitrary tax based on the value of your house about 35 years ago decides what you have to pay for public services you don’t even use.

Doesn’t exactly seem fair that a house of 1 adult pays the same as a house of 5 adults does it?

Hardly surprising that the story ran and ran because they cut the £300 winter fuel allowance for any pensioner getting over something like £218pw (pension credit threshold). So the former company directory living off a £50k pension doesn’t get it (few will argue about that), but neither does the living off the ‘new state pension’ of £221pw (hardly the life of riley).

In all fairness, single person discount should be 50% or more.

    8. “Suggests” is doing a lot of heavy lifting and allows them to cut single person discount if the press and public reaction isn’t too bad.

    9. The only real joke is that a single person discount isn’t 50%, ya know, cos maths

    10. There’s been a real rise in stupidity in this place these past 6 weeks.

      Labour never announced this.

      Labour didn’t consider it.

Labour didn’t even think about it.

This was 100% a press invention that they ran with and you Muppets bought it without thinking.

Why do I get the feeling that, rather than forming policy based on economic factors, they are play-testing policy ideas, throwing them out into public debate without officially committing them, to see what gets shouted down or up by the peanut gallery?
