Ich bin einfach irgendwie verblüfft und neugierig, warum es fast 100 % des Kaufwerts sind.

  1. It’s bunch of different fees, duty, tax, administration/handling fee.. in general it’s better not to order anything from UK, even the cheap stuff are not worth it.

18 euros handling cost for bpost, and then 21% VAT and 12% custom duties for whatever the indicated value of the package was. I basically stopped getting packages from outside of the EU because the costs are ridiculous.

~~Nothing over the value of € 21. This figure **INCLUDES** the cost of shipping~~

    Ignore my comment.

omg I just ordered something from UK for the first time and now I’m worried 🙁

  5. There’s always a fixed 18.50€ administration fee put on anything you import from outside the EU on top of the VAT. It’s just not worth it importing a single cheap item.

Import duty, dumping taxes, vat,… i would only buy in countries that we have international trade aggreements with.

  7. I had it the other day. 90€ for a 180€ coffeegrinder. I canceled the order

Honestly you’re probably better off going to the UK and picking it up at the store

  9. Taxes + bpost fee. But bpost fee is absurdly high. It makes no sense to order anything cheap from UK/US if it comes by bpost. Postnl takes like 4 eur? instead of 18. In other countries this fee is even lower.

Because you where dumb enough to buy something from outside the EU and did zero research about customs…

Isn’t it so that, below the amount of 150€, that those taxes don’t apply? 🫣🤷‍♂️

  12. Waarom denkt ge da ik een extra trolley meeneem binnenkort als ik naar Bovington tank museum ga? Da ding wordt volgepropt met mcvities custard biscuits en nog.

  13. Learned this the hard way like most people.
My kid was a huge ninja turtle fan, but some figurines were not available in Belgium.
Ordered one online without really checking where it was shipped from.
It ended up double the price, but the kid was so happy.

If it’s a mail by ‘bpost’. Do not just pay it online. Normally the mailman will ask you to pay in person. A lot of fake mails are going around so watch out!

Always check if shops outside of the EU include VAT in their prices or not. Most UK shops put in their faq if they do or not.
If they declare VAT, you won’t get taxed on importing it.

  16. For what it’s worth, if you buy on Amazon (.com for example) or Ebay, or if your seller sends by DHL/UPS, then you just pay the import tax without any extortion fee from bpost. You pay for it upfront and it also takes less time I think.

  17. What about shipping to the UK from Belgium?

Does anyone have an idea how much the import would be? It’s quite a big package.

  18. With ryanair cheap flights it would be probably cheaper to fly there to pick it up and come back /s

Read the piece between the brackets in your title that’s your answer.

Because of Brexit, now there’s a ton of extra fees on purchases from the UK into the EU.

Wanted to buy a manual on tanks as a bday gift for my brother and it was like 20 euros just for shipping. The manual was 15.

I once had this after ordering a Tottenham shirt on their shop. Mailed the shop and asked to receive the €31 as I didn’t know this cost in advance.

Surprisingly, they did pay me the money

  22. Hello, welcome to earth, where brexit happens and import taxes exist in general?

  23. NenoxxCraft on

I once bought an ocarina for 15 bucks, from the US and paid an additional ~25 bucks in customs + other fees

Everything gets calculated on the total value of package (value of the item + value of the shipping).

You pay import taxes first. You can find those online. It’s a percentage of the total value of the package based on where it’s shipped from and what category of goods it is.

Then comes VAT / BTW which is calculated as follows: (total value of the package + import taxes) /100 *21. Yes you get taxed on taxes somehow.

Then you pay customs fees. Then potentially additional fees postal services charge you for the hassle.

    For businesses it is different.

  25. I had somewhat the same happening to me, so I complained that there was a mistake in the computation.

They came back with a positive letter saying that the amount on which the tax had been computed was indeed to high, so they fixed it and I had to pay way less (about 10€ instead of 30€).

However, this fix came with an administrative fee that ended up increasing the final amount I had to pay. Oh, and on top of that the t-shirt I ordered was too small lol.
