  1. And the exodus of the GOP from NC begins…

Let’s paint the town Blue, folks!!

  2. 2_Spicy_2_Impeach on

I mean it’s just self-preservation. I don’t think any of his behavior is a surprise to his top aides. It’s just that it’s public now.

  3. account_for_yaoi on

Remember that Trump endorsed him with borderline erotic praise.

  4. 54sharks40 on

I cannot believe the national R party did not pay him (enough) to step down Friday.

I’d like to know if these staffers knew about the 1:6 Nazi figurine collection before this huge drop. Unique from all the sordid online stuff, it seems like all it would take is being in his home and seeing them.

  6. eric_harlan on

Hard to imagine that he will not eventually be replaced. I’ve read articles that say Trump‘s path to the electoral college is almost nonexistent without North Carolina. I don’t think they can change the name on the ballot though. But I can’t see how he continues.

  7. The guy was already a known scumbag before the last few days and these people were still happy to be tied to him then. Jumping off the ship now doesn’t save your reputation.

  8. DrinkyDrinkyWhoops on

It’s hard to fathom that this is the one thing that did it, but I guess there is a tipping point where he is now becoming a pariah. The reality is that all of the people leaving still supported him when he said that slavery was good and that he’d own a few. For whatever reason THAT was still ok.

Didnt the NC GOP double down on Robinson saying this is all liberal lies? The arrogance is insane.

  10. So the question is which is worse for Trump? Robinson continuing to actively campaign for the Governorship, or Robinson shutting down his campaign and conceding the race without being able to remove his name from the ballot due to missing the deadline.

Damn, I was just starting to believe a time traveling hacker made all those posts.

  12. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/22/politics/mark-robinson-campaign-resignations/index.html) reduced by 78%. (I’m a bot)

    > Four top operatives on Republican Mark Robinson's campaign for North Carolina governor have stepped down, the campaign announced on Sunday, days after a CNN report uncovered inflammatory comments he made on a porn website.

    > The announcement from Robinson's campaign comes in the aftermath of a CNN report uncovering inflammatory comments the lieutenant governor and Republican nominee for governor made on a pornography website message board over a decade ago.

    > Neither the Robinson campaign nor Nude Africa responded to inquiries from CNN. In a statement announcing the departure Robinson reiterated his intention to stay in the race, saying, "Polls have consistently underestimated Republican support in North Carolina for several cycles now and with a large portion of the electorate still undecided as we continue to ramp up our efforts across the state, I am confident our campaign remains in a strong position to make our case to the voters and win on November 5.".

Can’t wait for when he inevitably loses and then claims it was rigged.

  14. ChungusAhUm on

    >General consultant and senior adviser Conrad Pogorzelski III, campaign manager Chris Rodriguez, finance director Heather Whillier and deputy campaign manager Jason Rizk have stepped down from the campaign.

These are their names. They were fine helping an avowed Nazi until the political headwinds changed. Well forget their names as soon as we read this but may their fortunes always be tied to this ignominy.

  15. Public-Assistance-84 on

And in other news, Rats have been seen deserting sinking ships.

  16. Noizyninjaz on

He will probably still be the candidate on election Day. This easily proves two things. The Republican party is reprehensible and the two-party system is a complete failure.

  17. Asleep-Barnacle-3961 on

Robinson also announced that he will now go by the name “Pee Diddy.”

  18. kyleraynersfridge on

Is there a real chance NC will go Blue? When was the last time that happened?

  19. Basic_Quantity_9430 on

The resignations shows that they either knew about the bad stuff about Robinson and tried to hide it, or they have looked at the evidence against him and decided that it was solid. At any rate, they are saving their own asses now, no need to damage their future with other campaigns staying on a stinking, sinking ship.

Stein is being very smart and strategic. His only statement so far was to cast doubt on the personal morals of the GOP ticket above and below Robinson. I believe that barring a gross surprise about his history, Stein realizes that he has his race in the bag and wants to help Harris and down ballot Democratic Party candidates in his state.

  20. DougalisGod on

Yet they were cool with everything he said prior to this becoming public.

  21. Catspaw129 on

Golly! I wonder: what if he wins?

What kind of folks will he hire for staff positions? Nominate for judges and so forth?

  22. JustAGuyNamedRyan3 on

I’ve lived in NC all of my life, and I certainly hope he loses. But if he doesn’t – and there is a chance that he does not – it is going to ruin this state for a generation.

I drove just today from Charlotte to Ocean Isle, and going through much of the rural parts around Leland, Whitesville, Lumberton, Laurenburg – folks still have Robinson signs out. So don’t sleep on this guy winning.

  23. So what did they finally see ? What possible thing was worse than what he showed them every day ?

  24. North Carolina, you have the opportunity to rid yourself of Robinson and rid the country of Trump. Please vote!

  25. Is there any mainstream Democrat candidate running for office who is equivalently extreme as Mark Robinson is? People like him are the main force making this country “divided” and it’s frustrating listening to media and pundits acting like it’s not completely one-sided division. Sane people don’t want to be friends or maintain contact with people like Mark Robinson or his supporters and that should be encouraged in a civilized society.

  26. Fine_Mess_6173 on

Apparently he’s actually down to just 3 staffers, 2 spokesmen and 1 bodyguard

NC GOP are in a catch22 with this one, and I love it.

He can’t drop out because the GOP can’t legally replace him, ceding the Governorship to the Dems. Having no one in that seat will cause issues lower on the ballot and (I hope) jeopardize their supermajority in the state.

He *wont* drop out because the GOP has long instituted the belief that once you make a decision, you can *never ever admit you are wrong*. He is following that, and is following Gaetz, Cawthorne, and Santos in staying in a position of power long after they tarnished the party (or exemplfy it…). This is going to steer more and more people away from the GOP and depress their turnout.

Trump is silent, which is rich coming from him and being “the leader of the party.” He has an endorsement that he can pull, but that would *admit he was wrong* which he can’t do on a personal level. He can lie and say he never endorsed him, but folks have stopped responding to that. And each time Trump is in the state, the news will mention Robinson, regardless of what Trump does.

They can avoid saying his name, but the fact he won’t disappear and the Democrats blanketing the airwaves tying the whole GOP to his fella is delicious.

“You can’t find someone worse than Hershel Walker.”

    GOP: “Hold my beer.”
