  1. When I hear people say the Russian army is “bigger and better than it was at the start of the war”, well…this shit.

At this point they would’ve been better off sending the ship there as well.

This tells me their military is either damn close to overthrowing Putin and saying fuck it or it’s in collapse.

These are navy sailors who have had minimal training about fighting on land . These guys are all gonna get slaughtered.

  4. I’m sure their morale is through the roof. They’ll fight hard I’m sure

In the US Navy, during Iraq/Afghanistan, this was called the individual augmentee program. For over a decade, if your ship was off a deployment cycle, you were eligible to get pulled into a 12-15 month tour in Irag or Afghanistan.

  6. So, correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there a degree of extra training required to work and operate on an aircraft carrier?

Seems like that’s a lot of knowledge and experience that’s going to die in a muddy ditch somewhere. I know that Russian floating cash burner isn’t going anywhere anytime soon but still…

  7. To be fair, they probably weren’t doing jack shit on that heap besides keeping a fire extinguisher on their person at all times.

Well in fairness i doubt Russia would ever have a functioning aircraft carrier so why not official abandon the idea and reallocate resources.

This aircraft carrier is constantly undergoing repairs. It can barely operate for a few months without needing many more months in port for maintenance. If it ever managed to deploy and pose a threat, it would be a sitting duck for the Ukrainians and a massive loss for Russia. To Putin, those sailors are more valuable in the trenches because he knows they’re useless with that carrier.
