      I feel genuinely sorry for the people of Springfield who’ve been personally terrorized by their own US Senator, but Vance and Trump sextupling down on a provably false story to the point where Trump himself will be campaigning in a deep red state (against the Republican mayor’s own wishes) on an issue most people now recognize as a conspiracy theory is not going to win them a single voter.

      He still won’t walk this back. The allegation is all that matters. Those who’ve consume the kool-aid stopped reading after the “claimed that her pet might have been taken by Haitian neighbors”. That was all the needed to read, for them, that makes it true. The fact that the woman later found her cat in the basement is “fake news”, and a “coverup of the real story.”

      This is the world that these folks live in. They’ll believe just the parts they want to believe and anything to the contradictory is “fake news”.

      Why do they dig their heels in nonsense. It may be small, but Bush did this with weapons of mass destruction and we had a decade war… He was wrong and never admitted it.

      These people should not be allowed to govern if they fail at the simplest honesty tests.

      Despite the fact that the Springfield officials, state government, and woman who initially posted that it is all a lie, and despite the fact that JD Vance admitted to making up things to make people angry at immigrants; JD Vance continues to claim that the admitted lies are actually true.

      Why are they choosing this hill to die on? I mean, I *get* the blatant racism, and the fact that the entire Trump campaign has basically one braincell to share. And I get they can’t admit they were wrong.

      But if the GOP governor is calling them out, the community itself seems to be shifting to protective mode over their own, and it’s not gaining them anything. Why not just let it die?

      Trump himself has proven the firehose of bullshit works as a distraction. Just find a new offensive thing to go after.

      Don’t confuse this as stupidity. Vance knew that. He just doesn’t care. The Kremlin TM strategy is to make people lose faith in anything being real so that they will believe anything could be real. It’s the same old misinformation. Trump’s followers are posting this stuff right now on every social media platform and when provided the truth, again – they say it is deep state lies. It’s KGB shit.

      Vance is not fighting to win an election when he does this. He’s fighting democracy itself. He is engaging in 100%, without-question, stochastic terrorism. His side sees that as hyperbole because they use hyperbole all the time. Both sides and all that. He is ok with a few innocent black people (citizens, BTW) being killed by a lie if it kills democracy too. He just said that on TV, no need to take my word.

      He just wants his Reich of Christian Nationalist soldiers. This shit is out of control. Harris will be fighting an inwar even if she wins the election. They are not going to concede.

      They will say they will concede a “fair election” but only they get to say what is. And they never fucking will.

      We have proof that he made up the story – he said so in a recently recorded interview. What’s left to prove? Take his claim at face value, that he’s a liar and walk away. There’s nothing more to learn about him that’s worth learning.
