Interesting that Lichenstien and Luxembourg are higher than most others as well. I wonder if part (“PART”) of the problem is small countries needing to import more labour than larger countries with a wider local labour force.

I did say ‘PART’ of the problem, I painfully realise there are other factors at play here as well.

It’s per Capita and when the official population of a country is 500k it’s easy to see large numbers..

Can’t speak for others here but

First set foot in malta 2011 (not every year a full time resident but can share my experiences)

Connected with lots of expats and a very big majority moved back home after 6 months to 12 months which always seem like a golden time span…? Out of the maybe 50 people i befriended only 3 are still there.

While these numbers look scary, it seems a lot is just short term residents… malta seem to have a pretty low retention rate in comparison to other eu nations for first country nationals

I find Maltese ppl to be wholesome and friendly and welcoming (love them!) But I do think part of this is because expats look for other expats to befriend so when they move elsewhere it’s easy to feel lonely and abandoned.
