> AFP. Thirty-seven people – including three Americans, a Briton, a Belgian and a Canadian national – have been sentenced to death over an attempt to overthrow the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
> Also sentenced to death was Jean-Jacques Wondo, a dual Congolese and Belgian citizen.
> Death sentences have not been carried out in DR Congo for roughly two decades – convicts who receive the penalty serve life imprisonment instead. The government lifted this moratorium in March this year, citing the need to remove "Traitors" from the nation's dysfunctional army.
This story is wild, the Utah kid likely got bamboozled into being “security detail” for his friend’s dad for 100k and then likely got forced into helping with the attempted coup at gunpoint

What a surprise, the US and UK aiding in a coup, again.

The DRC has historically commuted death penalty sentences to life in prison, but there’s also every chance that they’ll go ahead with these ones to make an example out of them. They did kill two police officers and attempt to overthrow the government after all. I do wonder if the US will try to free these citizens, or at least get them off death row.

DRC is very shady and corrupt, yet they are almost untouchable by other countries because they are sitting on several trillions of dollars of natural resources, including copper, lithium, oil, gold, diamonds, and the world’s main supplier of cobalt! The DRC is the key for producing the next century of technology products for the world.
