Following a visit to Armenia by French President Emmanuel Macron in February and with another slated for this month, Yerevan will allegedly receive modern French weapons including the Mistral man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) armored vehicles, Caesar self-propelled howitzers and radar systems in return for making the transfers to Kyiv.

While **replacing** it with brand new equipment.

Pashinyan has been trying to pivot to western allies for a long time, away from their long-time guarantor Russia. Sounds like France is finally giving them some backing. These new weapons and hopefully future deals will hopefully dissuade a bigger Azeri offensive.

Good! Everyone get rid of your old soviet crap and give it to Ukraine. Replace it with high quality Western equipment.

Armenia about to throw down. They know what the consequences are of allowing Ukraine to lose. They don’t want that shit nor that kind of smoke, so they decided to go ahead and pool their resources with everyone else seeing the accumulation of resources being more impactful than having to go toe to toe with a psychopathic nation that just conquered one of their neighbors.

This is misinformation started by Russian sources (as the KyivPost explains its sources) to both attempt to build a narrative of Armenian outright hostile actions against Russia (allowing for future action against Armenia or allowing Azeris to act on Russia’s behalf) and of the Armenian government being incompetent (as with their dire military situation relative to Azeri drones, giving away air defences would simply be stupid.
It has been refuted by the Armenian military channels in Telegram. Armenia is under threat of Azeri invasion, and they need all the weapons systems they can get their hands on (hence why they are buying it from France as well).

I’m all for it but is that a good idea Armenia? You’ve got an actively hostile neighbor on one side, and a passively hostile neighbor on the other, I think if anything they could use their air defence systems rn

Someone is looking for patrons with enough influence that the Turks don’t want to anger them and is also willing to stand up to the Russians.
That’s a rough neighborhood.

Is it actually true or just Russian propaganda over the corridor dispute?

Armenia has been transitioning from Russia’s sphere of influence to the West for some time. Armenia is more democratic, more liberal, more English and French speaking, and, frankly, American culture is better received and more novel to Armenians. Many in Armenia, and among the diaspora, have relatives happily living as Americans, and even aspire to join them in becoming American.

These are old Soviet era pieces. Ukrainians know how to use them. A chance for Armenia to renew it’s arsenal also as it has no need for it. Good.
