I loathe Trump, but this was one of the only areas where he did have a point, though for the wrong reasons. Had Germany not prematurely shut down their reactors, they would have been able to more easily transition from fossil fuels.

You know you’re a weird creep when the only foreign leader you can align with is Victor flipping orban… Harris might as well have signed trumps diploma because she took him to and put him through school last night!

    >“Like it or not: Germany’s energy system is fully operational, with more than 50 percent renewables,” the ministry wrote. “And we are shutting down — not building — coal and nuclear plants. Coal will be off the grid by 2038 at the latest.”

    >“PS: We also don’t eat cats and dogs. #Debate2024.”

    ~ German Foreign Office

  4. It’s not often that you get the chance to be a proud German liking your government – without infiltrating any neighboring capital. Dankeschön Mr. Trump.

Trump was 100 percent right that shutting down their own plants left them reliant on Russian oil and they paid dearly for it.

Germany is wildly ahead of America with regards to energy sustainability.

Doesn’t he have relatives in Germany?

I wonder what they think of him?

  8. Germany has the highest electricity prices in Europe. Not much to be proud about. Their energy policy is moronic.

  9. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.politico.eu/article/germany-slams-donald-trump-over-debate-comments-about-energy-transition-fossil-fuels/) reduced by 79%. (I’m a bot)

    > Germany's foreign ministry hit back Wednesday at former U.S. President Donald Trump after he criticized the country's energy policy at the presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris.

    > Trump slammed Germany in his closing remarks, claiming Berlin regretted its decision to transition to renewable energy.

    > While it's not clear what Trump means by a "Normal power plant," no new coal-fired plants are being built in Germany – although the government has abandoned its original 2030 deadline for phasing out coal in order to shore up its energy supplies.

  10. Okay Germany, first ease up on the energy rates; then begin hammering.

Did anyone else see the word “barbs” and think he was taking on Nicki Minaj stans in addition to Swifties? Nothing in the news would be too bizarre anymore.

Trump always talks about how he speaks with so many world leaders and they all talk about how America sucks essentially. This got me thinking, that’s what they’re saying to him while he’s talking to them!?!?

lol the article said they’re building 4 new natural gas plants

  14. dwilliams202261 on

Factchecked. lol, I am unsure, but I don’t think Harris lied or mislead during the debate. We will see if she can keep those policies on track.

  15. Loath as I am to agree with him, as a socialist I can’t just deny facts because I don’t like a person, that’s right wing behaviour – he’s got a point. Said awfully of course, as usual.

Germany has been strip mining the countryside for lignite. We in the UK paid for their mistake of over-relying on Russian gas a few winters ago, and to an extent still are. Their over-reliance on wind and shutting down nuclear plants over a decade ago was a total disaster they’re still recovering from.

The response from their Foreign Office is as childish and petulant as Trump. And ignores and sweeps under the rug their problems when it comes to green issues.

Then again, this is the same foreign office that keeps sandbagging on support for Ukraine, so no surprises there.

Ah yes, the time-honored strategy of proving how suitable one is to lead one of the world’s strongest nations by alienating one of your biggest allies.

I’m sure making enemies of european countries will pan out well for Trump if he ever holds an office again.

  17. mangalore-x_x on

    Ah, Politico.

I am sure we also slammed, dunked, destroyed and owned Trump. All the while we are busy with our own problems, one of them being our own new brand of fascist assholes.

  18. Other countries respect me followed up by one of our allies absolutely roasting him for his embarrassing comments last night
