Their increase in costs they will pass on to every customer. Of course they can calculate better when there’s 24 month guaranteed income rather than hoping month by month.
It’s not that all upsell tactics are badly done in Germany, it’s that you’re not used to German contract law.
1. This is not an upsell but they are changing your contract. Normally that is not possible without you accepting the new contract. At the very least, you should have a special cancellation right.
2. Do you seriously believe that companies won’t suffer from higher inflation just because they aren’t an electricity provider? Their cost increases as well.
Why is it so bad? You get a higher speed (in theory) for a slight increase but you are bound by 24 months, vs the lower speed, monthly payment that I assume you can cancel any time. So you pay more for less but you are flexible to quit
What makes you believe that there is no increase in costs? Obviously an Internet provider has to adapt to inflation as well. Hardware for the infrastructure, salaries, etc. have all been getting more expensive. Doesn’t mean that “increased costs” can’t be an excuse but it also doesn’t have to be.
Oh yes, I just got the same one! Had Mnet for 2 years, was happy with it, 300Mbit for 30 EUR per month. But, after 2 years, they increase it to the amount shown. Shitty, I canceled them and will switch to another provider. They do not offer cheaper package as alternative (I would be also happy with 100-150Mbit for 25 EUR for example). They even called me to ask why I cancel, I just said: Price.
