  1. Damn, that’s kind of scary. How long before Z retaliates in kind?

Might be good for igniting large amounts of dry foliage and maybe any video game style piles of ammo crates that the Russians seem so fond of.

  3. The video of the drone slowly dumping fire over a tree line is wild. Drone warfare is already scary, but this still manages to kick it up a notch. I can only imagine the Russians will try to copy this capability.

I read the headline and thought “sounds cool but it’s probably a lot less impressive and effective than it sounds”.

Boy was I wrong; that’s a fucking garden hose of lava holy shit 🙂

Interesting that this ended up being THE drone conflict.

IMO it’ll be the only (small, non predator style) drone conflict as it can’t be that hard to get some nerds to make a button that grounds all drones within 2 miles they just didn’t have the need yet.

They’re a great force multiplier but there’s no way the USA and China aren’t seeing this and debating how to prevent it from being used against them

Wait, is it ok international laws wise? I mean if they are doing it so openly then I guess it would be, right? Why is it not banned? I’m asking because I thought flame throwers and napalm were banned.

Edit: Okay so I looked it up and apprently the answer is that [it is complicated because the entire UN couldn’t reach a consensus](https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/en/customary-ihl/v1/rule85)… I think, I skimmed through a lot of it because it was boring, as one would expect. Apparently most countries’ armies either ban it or allow it only when *it is not feasible to use a less harmful weapon to render a person hors de combat*.

How do you spray thermite? Burn it in the air and hope that sparks can ignite anything by the time they get to the ground?

  8. That video is something else. Reminds me of the heat ray from War of The Worlds.

Modern version of Apocalypse Now. The video of this is pretty terrifying. I guess you do with what you have available at the time, but I’ll be surprised if this war doesn’t lead to a lot of new-ground pact measures in the future.

That’s a terrible thing to do. The Russians should just take their gun and leave. Seriously, if Ukraine is not going to play nice, Russia should quit and go home.

I would not want to be anywhere near that, that shit terrifies me.

Looks like drones are leveling up from ‘cool tech’ to ‘holy heck, that’s apocalypticc’!

Light a man a fire and he’ll be warm for a day.

Set a man on fire and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.

  14. I support and will always support ukraine no matter what, but advances like this in war are not to be celebrated. Ideas like this may be important but it dserves thoughts on why they were neccessary in the first place. No one is proud of themselves having to make these decisions.

  15. Yall aren’t ready for the killer robots but they’re comin to every region inevitably.

Don’t worry the drones won’t be able to fire bend for 12 minutes on the next eclipse.

Being under that drone is definitely terrifying, but the mortars and grenades that have been used so often since the beginning of this war are more lethal to an individual soldier. The purpose here is to light the trees on fire and deny the use of the position temporarily.

  18. We ended World War 2 with basically a long (only because we were wildly inaccurate), sustained firebombing campaign in Japan, culminating in the use of 2 nukes.

    I don’t like it. I get it, but I don’t like it.

  19. That’s fucking terrifying. As much as I want Russia to get out, no one deserves to die like that. May as well just drop mustard gas on them.

Thermite melts through just about anything and just keeps going until O2 runs out or the chemical reaction stops
