  1. The subtitle of the paywalled article makes it sound like it was actually numerous instances of the man drugging his wife and letting someone else rape her. Which is obviously not better, but certainly more comprehensible than the logistical implausibility suggested by the original headline.

  2. This is the most over the top thing I ever heard I hope the man is literally sent to hell as a court punishment.

  3. I hope he’ll wake up every day in prison not exactly remembering going to bed, having an unexplainable pain in his butt, and a weird taste in his mouth.

Also in France, a judge tried to do that with his 12 yo daughter to strangers online

Apparently it never materialized because he was caught, but still

He was sentenced to 2 years of suspended sentence

  5. >The trial of a man accused of repeatedly drugging his wife and recruiting more than 70 men to rape her while she was unconscious opened in Avignon, France, this week, drawing demonstrations outside the courthouse and horror across the country.

    >Prosecutors say that for nearly a decade Dominique Pélicot, 71, crushed sedating anti-anxiety medication into his wife’s dinners and used online platforms to invite men to sexually assault her in the couple’s home and other locations used by the family.

    >In an unusual move, the alleged victim, 72, asked that the trial take place in open court, stating that she wanted the world to know what had happened to her, one of her lawyers, Stéphane Babonneau, told The Washington Post in a phone interview Tuesday. And although The Post typically does not name victims of sex crimes, in this instance the woman asked to be identified by her married name, Gisèle Pélicot.

    >In court on Monday, she faced her now ex-husband and 50 other suspects police have charged as among those who assaulted her between 2011 and 2020.

    >Dominique Pélicot has not disputed any of the facts of the case, Babonneau said.

    >His lawyer, Béatrice Zavarro, told reporters on Monday that her client was “ashamed of what he did,” [according](https://www.lemonde.fr/societe/article/2024/09/02/le-proces-de-dominique-p-a-avignon-se-tiendra-en-public-la-demande-de-huis-clos-ayant-ete-rejetee_6302216_3224.html) to French newspaper Le Monde. “He recognizes what he did and there has not been an ounce of protest since the beginning,” she added.

    >Dominique Pélicot has said the men were all aware that his wife was drugged and unconscious, according to Le Monde. Police believe he laid out strict rules, including that the men should not smell of perfume or smoke that might jog his wife awake, and that they should not wear condoms, Babonneau said.

    >Some of those charged claimed they thought the couple were swingers living out a sexual fantasy and did not know that the victim had not consented to the rapes.

    >Babonneau said the court had already ruled that the arguments by defense lawyers for the men were not valid enough to prevent a trial from moving forward.

    >The trial is expected to last several months. Babonneau said the case has highlighted that the use of drugs to facilitate sexual abuse is not confined to nightclubs and spiked drinks, but can also be a crime committed by family members and other trusted people.

    >Now, he said, his client hopes the case will help raise awareness about the prevalence of what’s known in France as “chemical submission” — or the act of drugging someone without their knowledge and consent as a means to [rape or steal from them](https://www.academie-medecine.fr/la-soumission-chimique-un-probleme-de-sante-publique/?lang=en), among other crimes.

    >The victim also wants to spark a broader conversation about the risks of violence and sexual abuse that women, especially, face in France, Babonneau said, adding that “she believes that it is also a bit of a trial of society and the place of women in French society.”

    >The Pélicots were married for more than 50 years and had three children, according to French media outlets. He trained as an electrician and worked in different industries throughout his career; she worked as a manager for the French state electricity company EDF. The couple lived in the suburbs of Paris and moved to Mazan, a town in Provence, after they retired.

    >But underneath the veneer of normal family life lay a darker and more twisted reality, according to the case that prosecutors laid out in court.

Very evil men, he together with his colleagues must be locked away for very long time. A danger to society

  9. I support the death penalty for murderers.

    This case is almost there.

  10. I know not all men, but fgs what the hell is wrong with men! How can someone be so depraved.

  11. Who are these men?

Start dropping names so we can roll back to stoning. People would maybe think twice?

Either that or invent some education system cause this ain’t it

I always believed that given the opportunity most men would rape a person. It’s shown in how when men come across an ongoing rape, they are most likely to participate than to try and stop it. These are “normal, regular” members of society that have never done anything wrong but because they were given the opportunity they turned to rapists. I was in shock reading this article. I can’t even imagine how people could do this. What the actual fuck???
