    1. Well, this is coming from the rightful government of the Republic of China (ROC), ie: Taiwan…

Also, this is the polite fiction that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) wants to maintain.

Really good gambit from Taiwan, first I was shocked but after giving it some time to settle, it’s a masterpiece.

    4. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/09/3/7473219/) reduced by 46%. (I’m a bot)

      > Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te has stated that if China's claims to Taiwan are based on territorial integrity, the People's Republic of China should also take back regions given to Russia in the nineteenth century.

      > Quote: "If it is for the sake of territorial integrity, why doesn't it take back the lands occupied by Russia that were signed over in the Treaty of Aigun? Russia is now at its weakest, right?" Taiwan's president said "China's intention to attack and annex Taiwan is not because of what any one person or political party in Taiwan says or does. It is not for the sake of territorial integrity that China wants to annex Taiwan.”

      > "The Treaty of Aigun signed during the Qing [dynasty] – you can ask Russia but you don't. So it's obvious they don't want to invade Taiwan for territorial reasons," he said.

      Yes!
Russia always wants land from others despite having huge area and good amount of resources already,
it would be a nice karma payback if their land got partitioned
      like a wedding cake 🙂

“You wanted too much? You will end up having nothing”

China should make a referendum or something 🙂

    6. In China’s defense, they probably do not want to make the same mistake as Nazi Germany by fighting a war on two fronts, one of them being Russia.

    7. The basic logic behind Xi’s hypocrisy is that Taiwan isn’t nuclear, Russia is.

    8. IIRC China lost a number of its lands in a following way.

      * European country offers a deal to “rent” a land from China for 100 years.
      * China agrees because otherwise it will have to fight a war it cannot win.
      * WWI and WWII happen, the land declares independence.
      * Now its own country.

      Taiwan’s President

I know the title and article title need to be verbatim. But I was confused why china’s (the subject country) president or Russia’s (the last country mentioned) president would say that.

If ccp cares about history, they would prioritize reclaiming lands back from all the unequal treaties signed during the Qing dynasty.

But obviously that’s not the case, ccp wants to destroy democratic rule-based chinese society, and absorb both the technology and the economy. That’s what happened to hongkong.

It’s simple logic: if you want to reclaim lands back from the century of humiliation, then why are you not doing that to eastern siberia/manchuria, but instead support Russia in the Ukraine war?

This is a nice diplomatic move, Russia is weak now, has a history with China and puts a wedge between them. Unfortunately China’s motivation is greed for technology, not raw land and poor people to support.
