Would be a shame if he was accidentally killed while resisting arrest.

  2. DarkkGothic on

Looks like Putin will have to add Mongolia to his list of countries to avoid.

Everyone knows It’s not happening. A bit rich from us to basically ask them to get into a direct war when we’re tip toeing the Ukrainian strikes in russia question. The better question is why they’re inviting him in the first place

  4. The reason this happen is because Mongolia sign an ICC treaty so they are obligated to follow it but it seem like they turn a blind eye to it.

  5. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/09/2/7473129/) reduced by 54%. (I’m a bot)

    > The European Union has informed Mongolia of its position regarding the upcoming visit by Russian ruler and war criminal Vladimir Putin to the country and its obligation to arrest him in accordance with a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.

    > "However, there is an arrest warrant against Putin, issued by the ICC for unlawful deportations and transfer of thousands of Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia. Mongolia has been a state party to the Rome Statute of the ICC since 2002 with the legal obligations that it entails," she stressed.

    > Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Mongolia to fulfil its obligations under the Rome Statute of the ICC and arrest Putin.

I am not sure if even many of the EU nations would be bold enough to do the arrest.

Too much and a bit hypocritical from us to remind a smallish nation alone between China and Russia to arrest him.

  7. octahexxer on

Like any other country in the world would actually dare to arrest putin its just silly

  8. It’s amazing actually how many people believe in a nuclear strike if any country arrests putin. Nothing is going to happen, only the beginning of game of thrones inside ruzzia, nothing more

  9. Even if Putin go to the usa, I doubt they got the balls to arrest him without risking nuclear war

  10. father_goofie on

Yes, a country with 3.5 million people is going to arrest their big, bad neighbor. That would be suicide.

  11. Gakoknight on

I mean, does anyone really expect them to do it? Mongolia is in a hopeless position. Should’ve just refused the state visit.

  12. I want him arrested as much as anyone. But seriously… Look where on the world map Mongolia is placed. Why dfq would they do something like that when EU/the west/NATO can’t even supply Ukraine well enough to beat Russia in the first place.

  13. Patsfan618 on

Mongolia isn’t going to do that and every nation telling them too, knows they won’t. That would be not just political suicide for their leadership, but actual suicide because they’d be dead within a week or two.

  14. NeedForTeaMostWanted on

They could arrest him and hold him hostage… If it was really him who went. Probably a clone… Or lookalike

  15. Slow_Cricket_6685 on

Mongolia is just as guilty as Putin if they harbor him! Utterly depraved and disgusting behavior!

  16. The EU has reminded Mongolia that they might want to consider arresting Vlad during his upcoming visit. Nothing says “welcome” quite like handcuffs and an ICC warrant for crimes against humanity. I doubt anything happens, though.

  17. Chaomayhem on

In all seriousness, what would actually happen if Mongolia did arrest Putin?

Is there a possibility powers within Russia would actually see it as a good thing? Back in 2022 it seemed like the oligarchs were fed up with Putin.

  18. They could arrest him and spark a military response that might see an invasion force. That would be something.

  19. Bit early for horse archers but hey let’s see where we are in a couple of years amiright?

I remember South Africa had once been supposed to arrest a former Sudanese president, but Mugabe ignored it…

  21. Crackstalker on

I will await the imminent shoot out between President Putin’s security and the Mongolian police; this should be entertaining.

You need to read up on this “show” of an arrest warrant; many major countries did not sign on to the ICC… Thus, we have a warrant with no teeth.

And Mongolia reminds them of the bear and the dragon surrounding them.

  23. agree-with-me on

Arrest him and set up a war crime tribunal in Mongolia. Convict and throw him in a Mongolian prison or gulag.

Must be a joke after Gaza ? Right ? Remember the Rome statute cannot be applied selectively as per USA wishes .

  25. Hope there isn’t a diplomatic breakdown between us and Mongolia. We won’t be able to import…..erm….

  26. Those international agreements are just a cold fart, if participants complying with obligations at their will.
