This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/29/europe/ukraine-f16-crashes-intl?cid=ios_app) reduced by 83%. (I’m a bot)

> A top Ukrainian pilot was killed when a US-made F-16 fighter jet crashed on Monday, just weeks after the long-awaited planes arrived in the country a Ukrainian military source told CNN. The Ukrainian Defence Forces do not believe pilot error was behind the incident, the source added.
> Flying the F-16 was their dream and when Juice died in a plane crash during a combat mission last August, Moonfish made it his goal to fulfill it.

Not a pilot error, not damaged by russia. Just crashed 😐
Wish it hadn’t happened so soon… but we knew it would. I think back to that ONE instance of Abrams hitting mines and Bradley’s getting stuck in the same quagmire. Russia wouldn’t let that go for weeks… until they screwed up and tried to claim it was multiple confrontations… when it was just the same fight from multiple angles. I’m sure they’ll crow about this one too.
All I’m sorry for is the loss of the pilot. That’s the only thing that hurts here.

That’s what happens when you send Pilots with 1 year worth of training on the shit
Actually has a Wiki.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonfish_(pilot)
Is this the first time in f-16 has been shot down?
EDIT: I’m thinking F-15

Ukraine is a joke.
Imagine the updoots if this would be a pro ukraine story.
One job
I guess Ukraine forgot to purchase the ejection seat license
Rest in Peace Moonfish. Juice, another famous Ukrainian pilot too was killed not due to Russian fire, but on a training exercise with a L-39. Flying jets in wartime is a very dangerous activity, one slip up and it will cost you your life.
I mean it could also very well be sabotage.
All it’d take is someone being paid a lot of money to accidentally leave a panel unplugged.
Fogg of war, tough to find the truth. If it were shot by Russians in air or on the ground, would Ukraine even disclose the truth ? And when the support depends on its reputation on the battlefield ?
Kinda wild the US created this jet in the late 70s and yet everyone struggles to match it
Let’s send them more! War machine money printer go BURRR
“Crashed”
“Crashed “ more likely shot down
God fucking damn it
Can we just throw Russia out a window?
Heard a story on NPR this morning about ukraine’s soldiers getting free sperm storage. It’s so fucked what Russian greed is doing.
Solution send in the F22’s.
“Ukraine loses 20% of its modern Air Force after 3 weeks of warfare”
Other sources claiming he was not in the jet, he was killed in a strike on an airbase
Crashed or taken down?
Everything is possible even sabotage it’s war anything can happen.
Maintenance/upkeep is probably the hardest part about use of advanced equipment (advanced being relative). Training, skill sets, parts, quality control, etc. are all necessary elements to develop for new equipment. Any weakness in the means stuff like plane crashes can exist. There is going to be immaturity and a learning curve to all of this.
So… Was it a crash, or a “crash?”
Russia did report that they destroyed an F-16 in an airbase raid with Iskander missiles a few days back, so… Fog of War I guess, we’ll know in time.
Bro thought he was top gun maverick
I’m not a fighter pilot, but I’d assume that jumping into the seat of a new one is not like going from a BMW to a Mercedes (which can still be very confusing.)
Pilots work off reflexes and if you haven’t developed them yet inside of a new aircraft your skills are negated even if your were a top pilot in a different aircraft.
Even one tenth of a second makes a difference at those speeds.
While this sucks, Google “F35 crash” and you’ll find that fighter jet training is a risky business, it happens with some regularity.
What a shitty title for what happened.
Looks like 1 year of training an experienced Ukrainian pilot to fly the F-16 is not enough training to transition to the F-16 and perform a basic intercept mission against a non manuevering drone without crashing. New F-16 is $70 million. Cost to train a F-16 pilot is $5 million. Gone in 2 weeks.
>Initial reports indicate the jet wasn’t shot down by enemy fire, although the incident occurred during a massive Russian missile barrage across the country on Monday, the official said. Rather, the crash was likely a result of pilot error.
