Good. They should be completely banned in all schools. I work in a school and every fucking lesson I have to tell at least one kid to put their phone away.
And then you get the kids who think I’ve overstepped and call their parents IN THE FUCKING lesson to complain about me telling them to put their phone away. I’ve never known such an entitled generation.
Phones aren’t going anywhere, these kids will have this tech or tech like it for the foreseeable future. Why not work with the kids and teach them how to responsibly own and use a phone rather than banning the devices?
I wonder how the people behind TikTok will respond to this…
Hi we have this in NZ and I have a teenage daughter who uses a laptop in every class. It makes no fucking difference.
I can see this benefiting a child’s attention span when it comes to learning, but would love to see a study on how this improves/affects certain children
Ask any teacher and they’ll support this. And the idea that kids shouldn’t have smart phones until they’re older.
When parents try to figure out why their kids can’t interact normally, can’t do anything for more than 10 seconds or can’t figure anything out that isn’t the top result in Google, point to their kid’s phone.
Look, I support the ban, but you’ve got to hope they don’t mean “strictly under 15.”
Half the class will have phones while the others don’t; kids getting phone access will be distracting; kids will be arguing with staff on their birthdays; etc. Surely this is a lot of fooling around that can be avoided by a grade-based (or school-wide) ban.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/aug/27/france-to-trial-ban-on-mobile-phones-at-school-for-children-under-15) reduced by 78%. (I’m a bot)

> France is to trial a ban on mobile phones at school for pupils up to the age of 15, seeking to give children a "Digital pause" that, if judged successful, could be rolled out nationwide from January.
> The report recommended children's use of mobile phones be controlled in stages: no mobile phones before the age of at least 11, mobiles without internet access between 11 and 13, phones with internet but no access to social media before 15.
> In February this year, the Westminster government issued non-statutory guidance that said schools in England should prohibit the use of mobile phones throughout the school day, but that it was for individual headteachers and leaders to decide on their phone use policy.

Turning 15 will be a bigger deal than turning the age for driving or drinking
Just get one of those devices that blocks signals and put it in every class. Use your phone as a calculator if you must and that’s it.
Not sure why some people are so resistant to the idea of kids not having the ability to mess about on phones when they’re supposed to be learning.
When I went to school in Germany all phones were banned both in the class room and in recess. Glad they did that, it forced us to be social rather than succumb to being phone drones already
