      Given this is an American sport, they really need to specify if these deaths are the result of football, or shootings.

      I’m always confused by the “more protection, more gear” argument. Isn’t it clearly “better techniques, clearer instruction” – oh wait, the parents ARE actually responsible for that part…

      Edit – thanks for not just down-voting this into oblivion. I understand that children are difficult, but I also understand that mongol children can ride mfin’ horses.

      with global warming, these numbers will sadly continue to rise. you can keep adding pads, but in hot august days, that is almost counterproductive in some ways

      Probably the heat. We’ve had people fall out before. I remember steam coming off of shoulders when people took off pads.

      I played tackle football from the ages of 8, to 18.

      This isn’t anything new.

      Someone really needs to tell these blockhead coaches that practicing in 100 degree heat with full pads does not build “character”, and is dangerously stupid.

      Looking back, I physically cringe thinking of all the times I saw stars, or blotches of black after a hard hit.

      There is certainly nothing cool, or tough, about getting multiple undiagnosed concussions at the ripe age of 12.

      How many middle and high school students have died in August? Now, as a percent, how many were football players.

      Edit: I know it is hard to accept, but football doesn’t kill people more than other sports on average. Injure? There is an argument. Clowns in the media want to treat it as some sort of death game however. It’s not that. Go ahead, show me the statistics where American football is some sort of murdersport.

      In this[ study from 2007 to 2015](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6522087/), Baskeball had the most deaths despite the fewest players. Baseball next, and then Football. Football has the most number of players on a team.

      7 in just a single month in August 2024 sounds crazy. That’s all deaths from 2007 to 2015.
