  1. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraines-f16-jets-shot-down-missiles-during-massive-russian-strike-2024-8) reduced by 62%. (I’m a bot)

    > Ukraine's new F-16 fighter jets successfully shot down missiles during Russia's massive barrage on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday.

    > The Ukrainian President didn't provide additional details on how many jets were scrambled or how many missiles they shot down, but the use of F-16s marks a significant moment for Ukraine, which spent much of the war begging the West for fighter jets.

    > After the attack on Ukraine, Zelenskyy again urged the US and other partners to allow Kyiv to use its Western-provided long-range weapons to strike into Russian territory, noting that the Russian strike was a reminder of the pressing need to use such weapons to target Russia "Precisely at the locations from which they launch their attacks.”

This is the first group of pilots and technicians trained in Denmark. Experienced pilots and technicians. Finished training in record 6 months, plus two months of “touching up details” before finally flying over and being deployed.

That should be 12 pilots at minimal, and about 6 to 10 airplanes. Plus all supporting and technical personnel. Nothing stopping any of them to transfer their experience and knowledge to other Ukranian pilots and technician and engineers in Ukraine. No language barrier. Maybe not a complete training but a huge part of knowledge can be transferred in this way. And the rest done in other ways.

Other groups including groups of completely new pilots are trained elsewhere, from first introductory class to nato systems to actually training on F16s. There are more candidates then training spots and airplanes, for now.
