      Uncontrolled crypto payments is what this is really about. I bet child porn is just something they added onto for political reasons since we know for a fact any bs will have support in the name of fighting it even though most people have never seen nor heard of it on Telegram.

      Obviously this is because of the fact it’s legitimately a secure messaging platform and telegram don’t provide backdoors to governments or investigators.

      Or else Meta, Twitter, Hell even Reddit would be on the hook for what their users use the platform for too.

      If he gets suddenly released, We can presume that he’s caved and given the powers that be a backdoor.

      I kept being downvoted by “privace people guys”. I keep saying if a crime isnbeing committed, the government should be allowed to check on those messages to form a casrle or gather evidence.

      I get how privacy is important. However you cant keep your privacy if you commit crime.

      I would like to charge the central bank with this same charge. They keep printing fiat currency, an untraceable privacy focused commodity that when exchanged is difficult to trace, providing an avenue for child trafficking, and is used and related to almost all crimes in the entire world.

      This is an extension of what the Russians have been doing for years. Look into the Epstein information available and it has been going on for decades. Number 174 is certainly involved and needs to be exposed pre election.

      I’m wondering if all the accounts claiming this is purely because Telegram is “secure” are just trying to self soothe so they don’t panic about what they’re doing on that platform.

      Everyone is quick to defend strong encryption, which they should be, but France doesn’t do stuff like this cavalierly. I’m curious if there’s more blatant abuse happening that’s known and complicit and we should be patient to see what comes out.

      Telegram doesn’t want to moderate or comply with governments, which some could argue is a good thing.

      Hypothetically if France managed to infiltrate a child-abuse chatroom and can show to Telegram messages/pictures/etc. of abused children and they subpoena Telegram to provide phone/IP information of the group members and Telegram refuses, then Telegram is obstructing justice and complicit.

      You can’t have a government say “here’s **proof** this user is abusing children, give us their contact info so we can save the children” and then as a business, just say “no”.

      Holy moly, a product people on Reddit like gets attacked, and suddenly everyone turns into conspiracy theorists.

      This app is used to share cp and other illegal media and real-life goods at a massive scale. It’s a hotbed for pump and dump schemes and other fraud. It’s an absolute shit hole.

      If you think other platforms are as bad, you are delusional.

      It seems illogical to first accuse someone of supporting terrorism and then arrest them for child exploitation and drug trafficking.

      If this reasoning were applied universally, then managers from national postal services, DPD, DHL, UPS, FedEx, and others would also need to be punished. Their services are undoubtedly sometimes used to transport illegal items. Unless they open every package and letter and report the contents to authorities as a precaution, they could be held responsible for the crimes committed using their services.

      Though it may not be the perfect analogy, digital messages should be treated with the same respect and privacy as traditional mail.

      Arresting Telegram’s founder is just the first step in a misguided attempt to eliminate private communication, piece by piece. If this succeeds, they’ll move on to larger targets, using this as a precedent.

      Many people recognize that accusations of involvement with “children” and “drugs” can be used to exert immense pressure on Telegram’s founder until he capitulates. Authorities argue that he is responsible for the crimes people discuss on his platform, which could lead to his indefinite imprisonment. For example, if France knows of 500 criminals who used Telegram, they could start a new case every week for the next 500 weeks.

      The true objective here isn’t to catch terrorists, child molesters, or other criminals—at best, that’s a convenient side effect. The real goal is to sacrifice privacy on the altar of “promised absolute security.” In my European country, I wouldn’t trust 99% of politicians with my email address. The idea that these same people could gain access to citizens’ private communications will only lead to one thing: the criminal misuse of that information by politicans to secure, or even extend, their power or to cover their crimes.
