  1. For anyone interested, this is just MyHeritage bunching up Cypriot with the broader Greek genetic group (which is quite diverse). The actual genetically closest populations to Golifa as expected are around the neighbourhood:

On a different site like AncestryDNA or 23andme with a distinct “Cypriot” category, he’d score that instead at around 85-90%.

  2. When I did my 23&me test I came up as 77.6% Cypriot. My grandma is German so I have 21% European including French & German and Eastern European.

But what really surprised me was the fact that 23&me could pin-point that my dna was relatively similar to many people from the Nicosia disctrict specifically! I found that hilarious. In my head I thought “Wow, people had children with their fellow villagers so much that even dictricts in Cyprus created their own blend of Cypriot” Loved that.

Other geneology categories included “Arab, Egyptian & Levantine” 0.7% and “Greek & Balkan” at just 0.5%.

I highly recommend Ancestry.com. It also analyses migration patterns and updates your DNA results over time.

For example, when I first got my results they told me that my DNA is from the general Italy region from XYZ years ago, which then progressed to Greek region, and then to Cyprus.
