Can confirm about this is actually happening, it’s pretty much closing for six months due to the news of there going to be heavy renovations of the entire area itself. Reason? Might be because of the entire place’s infastructure being outdated and decaying, although i haven’t heard much about that happening, but i myself haven’t researched about that part anyways.
I’m not sure if the Market is actually bought by a Russo-Georgian donor though, since that part isn’t really mentioned on the news that i’ve read about the place being bought, especially from Mtavari which i would expect them to absolutely make a mention about it, which they didn’t.

To be honest, call me a russo-nationalist (I’m Russian relocant), but happening to be nearby this place causes me some pain all the time.
Here we sell fish, then cheese, then clothes, then barbeque tools. And flowers, thus, smelling like fish, in-between. Along with the clothes you’re certainly not going to buy because of the fish smell.
And all these salesmen are playing backgammon on the sidewalks so that you can’t really walk through without coming on the road… Oh, wait, there’s no road, because the traffic is blocked by people walking around like crazy and they are using the said road instead of mentioned sidewalks – they are busy with backgammon.
I don’t know if the trade center is a good idea, but a little bit of rethinking, cleanup, organizing, and revenue service rush is required there.
P.S. Also, I’ve heard the same opinion from at least 10-15 Georgians, so it’s not just me.

possibly, but it is not suprising news
If you look into history of this area for past several decades it has always been part of some shady bastard changing hands

What the hell??!! How are people going to survive? How are people from the villages going to sell their cucumbers and tomatoes? They’re going to wipe out so many livelihoods and make finding affordable products nearly impossible for central Tbilisi.

Wow, I need to go back before they close. So many interesting things to try. Is there another place similar?

Every rich person in Georgia has ties to Russia, so yes, it’s true. I can look up his name if you want.

This is a trash place with dirt and mess. It’s a good thing it will be replaced with a modern mall.
Also, the market in the opposite side of the street will remain.

It’s sad, I liked that place, is there any alternative nearby?
They did the same in the UK years ago, knock down the thriving market halls because they are old and smelly, but dont worry a developer will build a shiny new ‘mall’ but guess what? 10+ years later… no market, no independent traders, no jobs.. but at least you can buy Gucci in the shiny new shopping centre.. but oh damn.. at the end of the lease Gucci moved out to the next shiny mall.. so now its empty and you’ve got a whole lot of nothing..
