It appears that after much debate, Joe Biden has decided to step aside in his current election campaign. A number of Democrats have requested he step aside since the Presidential debate, seemingly increasing in recent days. No word yet of who will replace him in the Democratic ticket.
Please not Kamala, please not Kamala, please not Kamala
He needs to resign now, so that Harris can benefit for a few months of being an actual President.
Unless they rather chose another candidate and find a loophole to keep the money.
I guess it’s Harris’ decision, even though, theoretically, the party can still make whatever choice (and it was the case even when Biden was still running).
I think this pretty much seals it for Trump. Incumbency is a very strong advantage and Trump is now basically a pseudo-incumbent due to being a former President. Whoever the Democrats run against Trump will most likely have no shot in the general election.
Has this ever happened before?
Also, i really dont think his successor whoever it might be, has much of a chance
Now watch Dems nominate Harris lol
Dems are so dumb and spineless… they destroyed their best chance
Seems like a catastrophic mistake, Biden should have gone for it like Macron.
we did it. we did an LBJ on him.
Whilst many see this as a surefire improvement for the Democratic party’s chances come this election, I’m not so sure. I think while Biden is certainly showing his age, the media and inner democrat backers have been a little overzealous in their call for a new candidate. By dropping Biden, the democrats lose the incumbent advantage and give up a lot of momentum. When LBJ decided not to run as the democrat candidate anymore in 1968 it was probably seen by many as the right move at the time but instead the democrats lost incumbent advantage, lost momentum and furthered fractures within the party. From 1968 to 1993, there was only one term served by a Democrat presidency.
Biden is not the sharpest on the debate stage anymore but his administration has been one of the most productive and achieved a lot behind the scenes. Now whatever new candidate the Democrats select will have to rebuild some of the confidence and political capital in only a few months. Also, people forget how fast the news cycle works, long lead times from an election allow scandals to blow over and have their impact softened by the voting time. With only 4-ish months to go till election, Republicans will be able to flood the news cycles with scandals (real and perceived) and negative coverage of the new candidate from now till the day before elections.
Now, I am not saying that replacing Joe Biden is definitely the wrong move, I just think that it isn’t the huge net positive that many in liberal circles seem to think it is. One thing is certain though, who ever the Democrats pick has their work cut of for them.
How disappointing.
Can Obama run again?
Seems like too little, too late. I believe they should have stuck with Biden after spending so much political capital on propping him up, Democrats just don’t have a publically acceptable and popular replacement for him lined up and the elections are too close.
If they actually end up choosing Kamala, it will be one of the greatest blunders in politics. A young, moderate candidate is what the country really needs
What about Hillary Clinton? Does she want to give Trump another shot?
Replacement will be a middle aged white man.
So basically Kamala will be Biden’s replacement or??
Curious to hear people’s thoughts on Newsom
This is the end
if it were up to me I would put Kamala as president and put robert kennedy as the VP. thats a good duo for debates, you keep the funding job bidden has and you get to meet the social politics of the matter
I give President Joe Biden my highest respect for his long, honorable, and effective service to our country, and for appearing to be a decent man.
But thank goodness he’s out of the race!
I’m still voting for RFK Jr., but I’m proud of the Democrats for taking the first basic common sense step towards getting their party back in order – which is to lay off the “anointed candidate” b.s. and give promising leaders who actually poll well against Republicans a fighting chance to, ya know, beat the Republicans.

It was about time.
No scenario was great for the Blues, that I can think of — it was/is going to be tough either way. The challenge now is they have to show very high, focused energy on Harris (or whoever it ends up being). Biden’s withdrawal has to be incredibly re-energizing. It will be a historically important DNC and the energy you see there will be very defining for November.
With things like Project 2025 being very real, despite being comicbook level villainy, it’s no hyperbole to say that this election will be the most consequential I’ve lived through.
Is Harris going to catch any political-flack for the perception that the entire admin has been lying about Biden’s competency?
I mean 3 weeks ago it was a conspiracy and ludicrous to claim Biden was able to handle it and now he is out.
Hot topic but not specifically geopolitics
