      Nice, but I doubt it. Sure, it gets hot in the summer, but not 50+ degrees Saudi Arabia type hot. Apparently they’re $5 million each. There are better things to spend public money on.

      It’s a brilliant idea…….. Until we find out the tender was won by some relative of a minister

      This idea in Malta:
      1. 50 healthy trees get ripped out of the ground
      2. These machines get built by a Qatar-Azeri conglomerate
      3. All broken in 1 year

      It’s in Prophet’s Mosque in Madina KSA. Millions of people visit it every month and temperature there can be very high sometimes touching 50° C. It’s a multi million dollar project.

      But then people will just stand under the shade in a public space rather than in a privately managed area where they have to consume to be allowed to stay. Also see; lack of bench space with trees in public areas.

      No one _needs_ these things, as much as no one needs a _Lamborghini_.

      They look nice but this is Saudi Arabia, one of those rich Arab countries that like to have these unnecessary and expensive things around just to flex and show how rich they are.

      Look at Naxxar and Floriana with those giant trees with ample shade. That’s what we need more of. More nature in the cities, cleaner air with more oxygen. Trees are better than these umbrellas in general. They use them instead because they have to splurge with all that extra money they have.
